I DON’T LIKE MONDAY’S: Especially Easter Monday ones. The nap traded around 1.04 in running before being chinned close home and the e.w. on the well backed Panther Claw Ladbrokes Irish Grand National went west when the selection finished one place of of the money in fifth 🙁

The Ladbrokes Irish Grand National threw up yet another big priced winner yesterday – Liberty Counsel (pictured) at 50/1 but much bigger on BETDAQ.

I was disappointed not to collect the place part of my bet on Panther Claw. He raced prominently, as expected, and got into a lovely jumping rhythm under Katie Walsh but just tired from two out.

Perhaps the writing was on the wall yesterday as the nap Wedding Present seemed to do everything right but win and was chinned close home in one of those agonising slow motion finishes when you’ve backed the horse in front.

I head back to Fairyhouse today but some lyrics from Frank Sinatra buzzing around in my head. What was it again? Something about picking myself up, dusting myself off and starting all over again.

It’s a late start at Fairyhouse – the opener at 3.35 is the Weatherbys Ireland GSB Hurdle (Grade 3) which has attracted just four runners with the Willie Mullins pair Djakadam and Dogora disputing favouritism narrowly ahead of another ‘D’ – Dalasiri who was only a head behind Dogora when the pair were first and second at Gowran Park in January . I have marginal preference here for Dogora but it’s really tricky and surely will develop into a tactical affair.

Just four runners too in the Normans Grove Chase and my only view here is that Days Hotel is too short at around 1.7. He looked a fortunate winner last time out and might be vulnerable. I’m not laying him though.

My only bet today is Waxies Dargle in the 5.35. He made a winning debut at Limerick (Draco third) and interestingly was subsequently purchased by JP McManus and switched to Noel Meade.

The suggestion is that he could be a decent prospect and although this isn’t normally the make-up of a race I like to bet in with countless newcomers and unexposed animals I think there’re sufficient positives to tempt me in at around 2.7.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Waxies Dargle (5.35 Fairyhouse)
