IRISH RACING RESUMES AT FAIRYHOUSE ON WEDNESDAY: SHAMROCK looks ahead to Ffos Las on Sunday – a fund raising day for JT McNamara.

Bids have started coming in for prizes to be auctioned at Ffos Las to raise money for the care of jockey JT McNamara who suffered paralysis after a fall at the Cheltenham Festival this year.

The event will take place at the Carmarthenshire racecourse next Sunday. Among the most popular prizes is a morning on the gallops and breakfast with champion jump racing trainer Nicky Henderson, including an overnight stay at The Pheasant near to his Berkshire stables.

The array of superb prizes for an auction has been brought together by Dai Walters, Ffos Las Chairman.

Ffos Las’s General Manager and Clerk of the Course Tim Long said: “The charity day has really caught people’s imaginations since we first announced it. The racing community has already shown that it will dig deep to help one of its own – and the support for jockey JT McNamara is heartwarming.”

There was a poignant link to the severely injured rider at Ffos Las’s most recent fixture when the racehorse Capilla – owned by Janet Davies who is a huge supporter not only of the racecourse but of Welsh racing in general – won the final race for Vale of Glamorgan trainer Evan Williams. The horse was previously ridden in Ireland by JT McNamara.

Among the prizes to be auctioned this Sunday are:

• A hospitality box for 12 people at Anfield football stadium for Liverpool v Swansea City on Saturday 22 February 2014;

• A visit to Ballydoyle racing stables in Tipperary – where Aidan O’Brien trains – and a tour of Coolmore Stud with lunch, for four people;

• Fly fishing for two on the River Usk, with the assistance of a gillie, and lunch at the Newbridge on Usk;

• Rally driving day for two people at Walters Arena Motorsport Complex;

• A day’s pheasant shooting at Bishopwood, Ross-on-Wye, on 28 January 2014;

• Four ball and lunch at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club;

• A summer race meeting, with a restaurant table for four and wine, at Royal Windsor Racecourse;

• Porsche Cayman taster experience at Pembery Circuit.

If not bidding for any of the prizes, visitors to the racecourse on Sunday can still support JT McNamara by purchasing a raffle ticket.

Bids in the auction can be made at the racecourse on the day – or before by calling Ffos Las on 01554 811092.
