Caravaggio is my day one nap at Royal Ascot on Tuesday in the Coventry Stakes.

Aidan O’Brien’s unbeaten colt won on debut at Dundalk and then followed up in easy style when winning a listed race at Curragh – which, crucially, came on yielding to soft ground.

There was a ground change at Ascot this morning to an official ‘soft’ but the Berkshire course is likely to be hit by further showers before race time.

Caravaggio stayed on well at the Curragh suggesting the extra furlong will be ideal and O’Brien has an exceptional record in the race.

Get Lyons also has a real live chance with Psychedelic Funk – also unbeaten in two starts – both over today’s six furlongs.

He won with a ton in hand at Naas suggesting he still could be ‘anything’ but the horse he beat, Ambiguity, was also well beaten by Caravaggio at the Curragh.

Irish trained runners dominate the St James’s Palace Stakes at 4.20 with The Gurkha (O’Brien) and Awtaad (Prendergast) long odds-on ‘coupled’ to win the race.

Again, the ground has to be the deciding factor and The Gurkha is preferred as all three of his runs (two of which he has won) have come on testing ground.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Caravaggio (3.05 Royal Ascot)
NEXT BEST: The Gurkha (4.20 Royal Ascot)
