SHAMROCK LOOKS AHEAD TO CHELTENHAM: It’s the International pre-Christmas meeting this weekend with Sempre Medici a leading contender in the International Hurdle.

Cheltenham stage their last meeting of the year this weekend and Irish hopes lie with the Willie Mullins trained Sempre Medici in the featured International Hurdle at Saturday.

He was given a spin on the flat in June and finished a good third in a Curragh handicap over 1m 4f which needless to say proved on the sharp side.

Over the jumps he finished sixth to stable companion Wicklow Brave in the Vincent O’Brien County Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival before going on to win a Grade 2 at Fairyhouse and then fourth of six to Nichols Canyon in the Tattersalls Ireland Champion Novice Hurdle at Punchestown.

His biggest rival on Saturday will undoubtedly be the Nicky Henderson trained Peace And Co who is unbeaten in four starts including most notably the Triumph Hurdle at the Festival in which he came late to collar stable companion Top Notch by a neck.

Irish racing resumes at Punchestown tomorrow. The going is soft (heavy in places). Strong winds and some heavy showers today, mainly dry tomorrow.
