DOUBLE GRADE 1 ACTION: SHAMROCK looks ahead to the two Leopardstown Grade 1 races on Wednesday.

Racing goes ahead at Leopardstown this afternoon but the course have announced an inspection ahead of their meeting on Thursday.

There is the threat of fog and frost overnight and the course will take a look at 7.30am.

The running order has been changed too as a result, with the beginners’ chase last at 3.35pm and the bumper at 2.25pm.

There are two Grade 1’s on today’s card:

1:15 PP Rewards Club Chase (Grade 1)

This race can throw up a surprise winner but not last year as the mighty Douvan beat subsequent Gold Cup winner Sizing John by eight lengths.

Far too early to say whether we’ll see anything to reach those illustrious heights but the Willie Mullins trained Min is certainly going the right way over fences. He is unbeaten in three starts including by nine lengths at this meeting last year in the Racing Post Novice Chase and then stormed home by 36 lengths on his seasonal reappearance at Gowran Park.

Ball D’arc has plenty more experience over fences and is a multiple Grade 3 winner but I think will be found wanting at this top level.

1:50 PP Future Champions Novice Hurdle (Grade 1)

This looks a lot more competitive but Willie Mullins clearly has his eyes on a hat-trick in the race and saddles four of the seven runners.

His quartet may struggle though against the hugely talented Mengli Khan. It’s amazing to think he was beaten on his first two starts since joining Gordon Elliott given he has won three on the spin now including at Grade 1 level last time in the Royal Bond Novice Hurdle.

Sharjah has won both his starts at Gowran Park in heavy ground and is hard to assess as he steps up in class.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Mengli Khan (1.50 Leopardstown)
DOUBLE: above with Min (1.15 Leopardstown)
