BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Friday’s Big Bash game between Sydney Sixers v Sydney Thunder with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We have a double header in the Big Bash on Friday morning and we have the Sydney Derby as the highlight! The Sixers take on the Thunder at the Adelaide Oval with the pressure on the Thunder to perform. The Sixers will want to win of course but they are clear at the top of the table as time is running out for anyone to catch them. It looks like they will top the group stages, but it’s a different story for the Thunder who start the game in fifth position and realistically needing to finish the tournament strongly to get into the Playoffs.

It’s a logjam in the race for the Playoffs this season. There is three points between Perth Scorchers in second and Brisbane Heat in seventh. That’s how close it is! The Thunder have the advantage of having a game in hand over the Melbourne Stars and the Adelaide Strikers who sit just in front of them but Hobart Hurricanes could easily overtake them with a win against Perth Scorchers in the first game today too.

So, it’s all to play for then. The Thunder had been playing some excellent cricket and sat in second for a while, however after losing their three they need a change in fortune. One of those games was against the Sixers too when the Sixers won by five wickets on Duckworth Lewis. Their bowling has been a slight issue – Hobart changed down 177/5 in 18 overs against them last time out. For the Sixers; they just play solid cricket. They don’t have a strong line-up on paper, but they are getting the job done and you can’t knock them.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

The most recent game at the Adelaide Oval took place yesterday so I wouldn’t expect conditions to change much. Adelaide scored 197/5 before bowling out a hapless Brisbane Heat for 115. Although the Heat have been poor in general this season, that type of game at the Adelaide Oval isn’t new. It’s definitely an advantage to bat first and I wouldn’t fancy trying to chase over 170 here. Sometimes we can see very low scores with batting conditions tough, but generally when batting looks OK the team batting first tend to score a reasonable total and defend it. Win the toss and bat first – that’s the advantage today!

RECOMMENDED BET:

There’s more on the line for the Thunder here, but that doesn’t mean we should be rushing to back them. I’d be very worried about their recent bowling coming to a ground where it’s a big advantage batting first. If the Sixers bat first we could see another score close to 200 and then it’s game over. For the Thunder the plan should be straightforward – the top three have to do the damage. They could easily do so at this ground too; however for me the Sixers are very solid. I look at them on paper and they don’t scream a successful team, but on the pitch they are impressive and they can notch up another win here.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

While I do fancy the Sixers to get the win from a pre-off point of view, I feel the in-running strategy here is pretty simple on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. The ground data points strongly to getting on the team batting first, and I don’t see why that should change here. Both sides have good batting line-ups and while they might fail – that happens – they still have the best batting conditions and the advantage of batting first. It’s very tricky to chase a score of over 170 here and the conditions suggested yesterday that 170+ looks likely. I’m happy to keep the trading plan straightforward today!
