Lucknow Super Giants v Chennai Super Kings

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The big IPL games keep coming on Betdaq Betting Exchange this week! Lucknow Super Giants host Chennai Super Kings on Friday afternoon with both sides jostling for a place in the playoffs. We’re coming up to the halfway stage of the IPL now this weekend, and these do definitely look on course to be involved at the death. CSK have had a better start than Lucknow; they have four wins from their six games whereas that’s three from six for Lucknow. We do have some big games coming up at the weekend, and I think we’ll have a much better idea where we stand in a few days.

For example, if CSK win here they are probably looking good for that third spot. A Lucknow win would definitely open things up a lot – the likes of Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans will have their Lucknow caps on here! The only criticism of CSK this season has been their performance outside of Chennai, however they put the critics back their box for the time being with a win at Mumbai last time out. The only thing to say about that however is that Mumbai have been poor at the start of the IPL this year, and their bowling has been woeful at times. It wasn’t a surprise to see CSK post over 200!

Lucknow have put together back-to-back losses against Delhi Capitals and KKR; both performances were quite similar. Posted in the 160’s, bowlers couldn’t defend it and it was chased easily. KKR absolutely blew them away. The Lucknow bowling is definitely a worry, and if they are going to win here their batting will have to do a lot of the work.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

Conditions haven’t been as easy at Lucknow as other grounds. That’s pretty standard here. We saw a high score in the opening game but then scores have come down – which is exactly what happened last season too. The first inning scores have been 199/8 (won), 163/5 (won), and 167/7 (chased). From all the grounds at the IPL this season, I definitely wouldn’t go into this game expecting a high score. We are seeing some incredible scores these days; it’s easy to get caught up in that – KKR smashed it everywhere again this week and then Jos Buttler even produced a record chase, but 170 looks to be a pretty good score here.

RECOMMENDED BET:

It’s no surprise to see CSK as the favourites here, and I feel the 1.75 still offers some value. They have built their squad around slow, low and spinning conditions. Lucknow is pretty much in the same box as Chennai conditions wise, and that should suit CSK very well. As I said above, the Lucknow bowling has let them down at times so I’d expect CSK to take advantage of that. Lucknow do have some excellent batters, but they come up against excellent bowling here that should go very well in the conditions, and that can be the difference.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

As I said above, I wouldn’t go into a game at Lucknow at this stage of the season expecting big runs. It can happen of course, scores seem to be increasing all over the IPL this year, but generally this is a reasonably tricky place to bat. It’s hard to know whether to bat or bowl first, but I feel the biggest in-running trade will be supporting the CSK batters against the Lucknow bowlers when the time comes – unless conditions look exceptionally in favour of the bowlers and the wicket is turning square. I feel that’s where the game will be won as the Lucknow bowling is there for the taking.
