Lucknow Super Giants v Delhi Capitals

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The IPL continues on Betdaq Betting Exchange with Lucknow Super Giants hosting the Delhi Capitals on Friday afternoon. We’ve had some very important games this week; Mumbai Indians v Royal Challengers Bengaluru was basically a knockout game already given the way they have started. You’d have to put Delhi Capitals in that same bracket too – they come into this game with the same record that RCB had; one win from their opening five games. In 2023 they finished second last, and it’s already looking like they’ll be hanging around bottom spot again.

Delhi are obviously under immense pressure, and they need a performance here. Their batting hasn’t been too bad; they’ve actually scored a lot of runs in their opening five games. The major issue has been their bowling – they’ve had 174/9 chased, conceded 185/5, beat CSK but conceded 171/6, conceded 272/7 and then conceded 234/5 against Mumbai Indians. They scored over 200 in that Mumbai game, and their lowest total with the bat has been 166 all out trying to chase the impossible 272/7. We can’t blame the batters for seeing them sit bottom of the table.

Lucknow lost their opening game to Rajasthan Royals but since then they have rolled off three wins. The only thing worth mentioning is that those wins have come against Punjab, RCB and Gujarat – not exactly top tier sides this season. You can say the same about Delhi though! This should be an interesting game, as I said all the pressure is on Delhi.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

Lucknow is generally a tougher than usual place to bat compared to other IPL grounds. We saw a high score in the opening game when Lucknow scored 199/8 but then they were able to defend 163/5 in the second game. Last season we saw a very high score in the opening game and then we saw scores like 121/8, 159/8, 135/6, 126/9 and 125/7 in the 19th over before rain arrived. I wouldn’t go into this game expecting a big score, but you also have to factor in how poor the Delhi bowling has been if Lucknow bat first.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Lucknow come into this game as the favourites at 1.76. That’s a big gap in the odds by IPL standards but everything points to a Lucknow win here. Delhi’s bowling just hasn’t been good enough, and if they continue to bowl loosely here that is what will change the game. Batting conditions aren’t going to be easy here, but tight bowling is obviously be the difference between a good score and an average score. I expect the Delhi bowlers to not put Lucknow under as much pressure, and I’m happy to take the 1.76. Lucknow have been ticking all their boxes, and this could be a comfortable win if they bat first.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

We’ve had a huge amount of high scoring IPL games already this season, the key here will be trying to change your mindset that this is a reasonably tricky place to bat. I don’t expect to see scores in the 120’s like last season, but I’m not expecting a run-fest. The only thing to worry about from that point of view is if Lucknow bat first and obviously the Delhi bowling has been poor – that’s the only way we see a big score in my opinion, and then that will result in a big win. I feel batting first will provide an edge here; ideally that’s Lucknow and then we can support the batting side.
