Chennai Super Kings v Kolkata Knight Riders

MATCH OVERVIEW:

A new weeks begins with a cracker from the IPL on Betdaq Betting Exchange! Chennai Super Kings host Kolkata Knights Riders on Monday afternoon with the home side looking to break the 100% record from KKR so far! CSK started the tournament with two wins in Chennai, but they lost their two games on the road – maybe the alarms bells are ringing that their squad is really suited to home conditions and might struggle elsewhere, but their batting just failed to fire at Hyderabad in good batting conditions. KKR are a side that have been on fire with the bat at the start of the tournament though!

Their net run rate is very impressive after beating Delhi Capitals by over 100 runs last week – they have scored 208/7, chased 182/6 in 16.5 overs and scored 272/7. How’s that for batting? Obviously it’s still early days as the IPL goes on for two months, but so far KKR have been comfortably the best batting side. Sunil Narine and Andre Russell have both had some crazy innings. Perhaps the only thing to note with the West Indians in they tend to go through bursts of form, and we all know this kind of form won’t last for the whole tournament. KKR still have to answer the question of can they win without those sixes; but it’s a case of so far so good for the time being!

CSK looked like a lock for the top spots in the table in their opening two games, but their bowling against Delhi and their batting against Hyderabad let them down. Obviously they are a lot more comfortable here, and it will be interesting to see how KKR cope with the conditions too. This should be a fascinating game; a win for KKR could mean we start talking about them as table toppers this season.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This is the third game in Chennai and you’d have to say that scoring conditions have been pretty high by Chennai standards. 173/6 was chased down in the opening game, and then CSK posted 206/6 to win by 63 runs. If Chennai follows the same pattern as previous seasons, you’d have to expect the scores to get lower as the tournament goes on. Their squad is packed with spinners too, so they expect it to go that way. This might be the perfect time for KKR to play here though; the wicket should still be reasonably good and they can keep swinging. I would keep an open mind on what a par score here is though.

RECOMMENDED BET:

It’s interesting to see that CSK are the favourites here; it makes sense given they are at home but I feel KKR are the value bet at 2.04 or bigger. I know their bowling has conceded runs at time, but how could you fault their batting – it’s be explosive and put the opposition under immense pressure in every game. We might get difficult batting conditions here, but as I said above it’s still early days in the tournament and the wicket might not be slow and low yet. I’m going to keep stakes reasonably small but KKR are the value bet in my opinion.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

It might be interesting to see what the winning captain decides to do at the toss here, but I would lean towards batting first unless we get heavy dew. You’ll get the best use of conditions batting first. To be honest from a trading point of view I would be happy to take on the KKR bowling if CSK batting first, and then possibly switch at the innings break unless it’s a very high score like the last game here. KKR’s batting has been superb, and they are definitely worth supporting in either innings, but I would be happier to support them if they bat first.
