Mumbai Indians v Chennai Super Kings

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We finish the week at the IPL on Betdaq Betting Exchange with an absolutely cracker on Sunday! Mumbai Indians host Chennai Super Kings and this is always an entertaining affair. Mumbai Indians might have had a slow start to this year’s IPL, but we have the two most successful IPL franchises here with a lot on the line. Mumbai Indians came through a must win game against RCB this week to keep their chances of getting a playoff spot alive – they are still in a pretty poor position with four points from five games, but for the time being they are still in the mix.

CSK might be the reigning Champions, but they come into this game with the jury still out. Their squad looks exceptional for home conditions and they have won their three home games. They have lost their opening two away games however, and that tag is going to hang around them until they break it! The Wankhede is obviously a good place to break that! We have had some exceptionally good batting conditions at this ground early in the season, and it’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out. Mumbai know they have to swing from the hips, and they chased down the 196/8 from RCB very quickly.

The big question here is can CSK bat that quickly, and how will their spinners cope with the conditions? If batting is easy for everyone, it’s usually the bowlers that win the day. That is definitely an angle that’s in CSK’s favour because the Mumbai Indians bowling has been pretty poor so far. It’s always interesting between these two, and this should be no different.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This will be the fourth game here. We have had two exceptionally high scoring games, and the first game here was a complete blowout as Mumbai Indians finished on 125/9. In the second game they posted 234/5 and managed to defend it despite still conceding over 200. Then RCB scored 196/8 only for Mumbai to chase it in just 15.3 overs! They could have chased 250. Obviously the RCB bowling has been very poor, but it looks like you’d want to be aiming for at least 225 here batting first which is a daunting task. I’d probably opt to bowl first; I know you’ll have massive run rate pressure chasing but batting conditions just seem so good.

RECOMMENDED BET:

We have a very interesting market here; I wasn’t expecting to see such a gap between the sides in the betting. Mumbai Indians are the favourites at 1.79, and although there are worries about CSK on the road this season and Mumbai were very impressive against RCB – I’d still have the sides closer together in the betting. Superb batting conditions usually bring sides closer together too; anyone can smash the ball around the park and play a match winning knock. This is no different, especially when we’re expecting 200+. I know the CSK bowling hasn’t fired away from home yet, but on paper they are definitely better than Mumbai – I feel they are worth backing here at 2.14 or better.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I accept the fact that we had a blowout game here in the opening game, but the Wankhede is usually a very high scoring venue and we have saw that in the last two games here. The way Mumbai chased down 196 so quickly this week would suggest 250 could be scored here! It’s a no brainer to support the batting side here in either innings, and I wouldn’t stay on either bowling side for long. While the Mumbai batting has gone very well recently, their bowlers have been poor and they are worth taking on.
