Sunrisers Hyderabad v Royal Challengers Bengaluru

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru saga continues at the IPL on Thursday as they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on Betdaq Betting Exchange. One of the IPL’s most popular franchises, home to India’s biggest cricketer Virat Kohli, is having a big crisis this season! Just one win from their eight games leaves RCB nailed to the bottom of the table. We have had some things happen that if it was football, the manager would definitely be getting sacked, but that doesn’t really happen in cricket. Sometimes in franchise cricket when you start poorly it’s hard to come back because there’s no glory on offer; just players going through the motions for the money until the next T20 tournament.

You could argue that isn’t the case in the IPL because every game is such a big platform, and I feel the problem with RCB is just years of mismanagement. They have always gone for big named stars with the bat – they really never focused on bowling talent and their bowlers this year have been woeful. They did splash the cash once on Mitchel Starc, but another issue at Bangaluru is they play their home games at the highest scoring venue – it hasn’t been the highest scoring venue this season but for the five previous seasons the average runs scored per over was 9.4. In such conditions, it actually pays to focus on the bowlers when anyone can score with the bat quickly.

Perhaps after this season they will change tactics. It’s a fascinating situation – that win for RCB came against Punjab who sit in second last too. Sunrisers Hyderabad have already scored a record 287/3 against RCB this season. One wonders what score is coming here!

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We have a lot of cricket at the backend of the tournament here; this is only the third game and there’s plenty of action to come. The first inning scores have been 277/3 (won) and 165/5 (chased). Quite a range there! Last season this was a high scoring venue and I would suggest that the 165 was well short of par. I wouldn’t be surprised to see over 200 scored again here. While RCB have been poor with the ball, their batters have actually played very well especially considering the pressure they have been put under.

RECOMMENDED BET:

It’s hard to see past a Sunrisers Hyderabad win here. I was actually surprised to see them trading as high as 1.78 when I clicked into the market – I know RCB will always have their market supporters because they are one of the most popular teams in the IPL, but I fully expected Hyderabad to be shorter here. They have been on the money so far; their batting has really impressed with some huge scores at times and although their bowling is a little weaker, they are definitely better than RCB in that department. Hyderabad are a five from five confident bet for me.

The Edge Says:
Five points win Sunrisers Hyderabad to beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru at 1.78 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Although we saw 165 posted here in the last game, I would expect a reasonably high scoring game. As I said above, don’t be surprised to see 200+ again. I would just take the opening overs to confirm the batting conditions, but then you’d want to be looking for trades mainly on both batting sides. I do feel we’ll see most market movement when RCB bowl however; their bowling has been terrible this season and I’m always happy to take on their bowlers as things stand.
