BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Monday’s Big Bash game between Adelaide Strikers v Melbourne Stars with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We start another week in the Big Bash at the Adelaide Oval as the Adelaide Strikers take on the Melbourne Stars! This should be an interesting game, and as with Sydney Sixers v Brisbane Heat yesterday this is another big game for these two sides as they are both in the mix in mid-table. Melbourne Stars have been pretty poor this season and they sit towards the bottom of the table, but there isn’t much in it and a few wins would likely see them right in the Playoff mix again. They can’t afford many more heavy losses though.

The Stars were very impressive last season and actually topped the Group stages before falling apart in the Playoffs. They have always played poorly in the Playoffs, perhaps this season they can just sneak in and perform! If they want to make the Playoffs they have to win games like this as the Adelaide Strikers are a “beatable side.”

The Striker are basically the perfect mid-table side. They do everything in a solid fashion, but they haven’t got a huge amount of match winners or spark to blow sides away. You can see that in their stats – lost five and won four, and it was particularly disappointing to see them lose to the tournament whipping boys Melbourne Renegades last time out.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

Mohammad Nabi played a brilliant innings here the last day to chase down The Striker 177/7. You would have said that was a very good score looking at the games prior to that but the Strikers bowling had no answers to his 71 off 41 balls not out. Batting has looked tricky chasing here, and we have had some massive wins by the team batting first. I’d be keen to win and toss and bat first, and it looks like a score of around 170 should be the expected score. I would feel that would win the game too as even though 177 was chased last time, we had an incredible innings and that won’t happen every day.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I have to say I was surprised when I clicked into the market for this one on the BETDAQ Betting Exchange. I thought we’d see odds pretty close together at around 2.0, but Adelaide Strikers sit at 2.14. I have to say that’s a very appealing price against a Stars side who have been struggling. They lost out in a ten over smash against Brisbane Heat but it highlighted just how poor their bowling has been. Maxwell has been trying to carry their batting and in fairness he has done a good job but he can’t do everything himself. Strikers do everything in a solid fashion without being amazing, and that will be enough to beat the Stars for me.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

The Striker probably don’t have the strongest batting line-up when you look at it on paper, but they get the job done. I’d expect another 170+ if they bat first against the Stars bowling and that should offer a good trade. Chasing is generally tough here if the team batting first plays well and I’d definitely want to be on the team batting first – especially if that’s the Strikers.

Stoinis came to the party recently for the Stars with 97 off 55 not out against the Hobart Hurricanes, but they only won by ten runs which probably highlights how bad the rest of the side is. Maxwell didn’t fire that day and the middle order is pretty poor when you take him out. Fletcher is worth taking on at the top of the order too and I don’t fancy their bowling, however I wouldn’t be keen on the Strikers chasing 170+ if that happened – but I’d get against the Stars bowling if the chance arises.
