MONDAY IPL: The Edge previews Chennai Super Kings v Sunrisers Hyderabad with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Chennai Super Kings v Sunrisers Hyderabad
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The IPL rolls into another week on Betdaq Betting Exchange , and we’re getting close to the business end of the group stage now. We kick off the week as Chennai Super Kings host Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai, and this is a an absolutely enormous game for both sides. Things are very tight in the race for the playoff spots, and there’s at least six sides looking very competitively at the top four spots. There is very little margin for error, and that defeat to Lucknow Super Giants on Friday night in Lucknow was a hammer blow to CSK’s hopes. Although you’d have to say they still have things in their own hands considering they play two sides above them – Sunrisers Hyderabad here and then Gujarat Titans.
CSK posted what appeared to be a competitive 187 on a surface offering something for the bowlers, but Mitchell Marsh had other ideas entirely – the Australian smashed a brutal 90 off just 38 balls as LSG chased it down with 20 balls to spare. They now need to win the final two games and see where that gets them – the road is narrow but the door is not completely shut.
Sunrisers Hyderabad arrive here in a tricky spot of their own, but they have two more points than CSK. They have two difficult fixtures to finish as well – CSK here and then RCB who are the defending Champions and have been very good again this season. They were in a very strong position, but they’ve lost two of their last three, and come into this on the back of a shocking 82-run hammering by Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, bowled out for just 86 as Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj destroyed their top order inside the powerplay. High stakes all around – an enthralling contest awaits.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
Chepauk is one of the most iconic IPL grounds, and we should have a cracking atmosphere again. Chennai can be a tricky wicket to read, and you’d have to go into the game with an open mind. The pitch here can be slow, low and dry, and it grips for the spinners – however, once we get a heavy dew we can easily see 200+ scored too. You really have to read conditions as you see them here. The first inning scores this season have been 209/5 (chased), 212/2 (won), 192/5 (won), 158/7 (chased), 159/7 (chased) and 203/8 (chased). Batting first appears to offer a slight edge historically at Chepauk, but obviously chasing is in fashion these days.
RECOMMENDED BET:
I felt this would be a pretty even game, and I was slightly surprised to see CSK trading as big as 2.18 when I clicked into the market. I didn’t think the range would be that big in the market. Sunrisers Hyderabad have the most explosive batting line-up in this IPL, but obviously they’ve thrown in some shockers too. CSK have had their fair share of shockers too, but we all know they love playing at home and they have definitely improved as the IPL has gone on. I just see a close game here, and from a value point of view I’m happy to side with CSK at the odds. I feel we’re see a closer game than the odds suggest.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Chepauk is one of those grounds where the in-running strategy has to wait until we see conditions. This is not a ground where you blindly back the batters and wait for the carnage – it can be slower, trickier and more suited to a bowler’s game, particularly in the middle overs. The key question though is whether or not we get dew – that will basically decide what a par score is and we’ll have to wait and see what strategy to employ based off that. The best in-running angle for me is to take on the Sunrisers middle order, especially if the dew isn’t heavy.
