BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s Big Bash game between Sydney Thunder v Perth Scorchers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

After a little break the Big Bash returns on Tuesday morning in Canberra with Sydney Thunder taking on Perth Scorchers. This is quite a big game for both sides even so early in the tournament. They are both in the bottom three and although they aren’t last as Brisbane Heat take up that spot the loser here would be really on the back foot. The teams ahead of them have all played three games so there’s no need to panic yet. However, Perth Scorchers already have a terrible net run rate after their first game which they will need to try and improve quickly.

The Scorchers unfortunately had their second game rained off against the Melbourne Stars and they found themselves in an excellent position too. The Stars needed 76 runs off 36 balls after Duckworth Lewis came into play with the Scorchers setting 158/6 in 17 overs. The Stars had already lost a wicket too when the rain came. They will surely view this game as an excellent chance to get a win under their belt. They impressed against the Stars after being terrible in their first game.

Sydney Thunder have a win and a loss to their record but they haven’t impressed me yet. They made heavy work of beating Brisbane Heat last time out. I think Brisbane Heat traded close to 1.1 as the top order of Thunder collapsed. It was probably a reflection on just how bad the Heat bowling is rather than how good the Thunder are. Still, an interesting game awaits with some quality players on show.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This will be the fourth game at the Manuka Oval in Canberra so we should have a fair idea of conditions by now. The first inning scores from the first three games read: 125 all out (Brisbane Heat), 169/8 and 178/6. Sydney Thunder actually played here twice, and they chased down the 178/6 with more than an over to spare but that did come against Brisbane Heat. I would be surprised if we didn’t see a 170+ score, however I do like the Perth Scorcher bowling and if the top three don’t do big then the Thunder will be in trouble. I would suggest par is 175 based on what we’ve saw so far.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I like the Perth Scorchers here at 1.76 on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. I think their bowling is top quality and given the fact we’ve seen a lot of wickets with the new ball so far in this tournament, I think if the Scorchers can take an early wicket or two then that will go a long way to winning the game. I know the Thunder middle to lower order chased down a score against Brisbane Heat, but the bowling will be very different here. Perth were impressive against the Stars too, and they should be able to beat this Thunder side.

The Edge Says:
Two points win Perth Scorchers to beat Sydney Thunder at 1.76 on BETDAQ Betting Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

This game could be good for trading, as you would imagine there will be some big swings. We only have to call which way! I think there will be big value in supporting the Perth new ball bowlers against the top three batters from the Thunder. I feel the Thunder rely a lot of them for runs, and the market will think the same way in my opinion. As I said above, we’ve had plenty of wickets with the new ball so the value is certainly on your side there.

I was impressed with how the Scorchers batters went against the Stars, and if they bat first I think we’ll see a reasonably big total, perhaps 180+. The Thunder conceded a lot against a poor Heat side so I can’t see why the same can’t happen today. The Thunder middle to lower order came off last time, but on paper they look weak and the market could over-rate them after the last game – I’d be keen to be against them when the chance arises.
