THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Wednesday’s Caribbean Premier League clash between Barbados Royals v St Kitts & Nevis Patriots with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The Caribbean Premier League moves onto the final group stage on Wednesday as the sides move to Providence in Guyana. We kick off the action with Barbados Royals taking on St Kitts & Nevis Patriots on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. We have a tale of two sides here because Barbados Royals are clear at the top of the table with seven wins from eight games, while St Kitts & Nevis Patriots are sitting second last. However, because Barbados Royals have basically beaten everyone and Guyana Amazon Warriors have been so poor, there actually isn’t much between second and sixth.

There’s only two points between St Lucia Kings, Jamaica Tallawahs, Trinbago Knight Riders and St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. In that sense, every game is massive for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots – indeed every game is massive for every side bar Barbados Royals and Guyana Amazon Warriors. Barbados Royals have looked the best side in the competition, and there’s no doubt they will top the table now. Apart from some very strange batting from the openers against Jamaica Tallawahs last week, Barbados have basically been faultless.

On paper, St Kitts now have a good side. They have a very solid opening partnership with Andre Fletcher and Evin Lewis – two top quality players at this level and then they have the Bravo brothers in the middle order and they have also added Rashid Khan to the bowling attack. They can go very well, but they did throw in a very poor display against St Lucia Kings.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

With the Covid19 pandemic, we didn’t see any CPL cricket here in 2021 and 2020. That leaves a big gap in the cricket calendar here so I wouldn’t be fully confident on conditions. We have seen International cricket here, it is a big stadium after all, and West Indies chased down 163/5 from Bangladesh with ten balls remaining in July. In 2021, Pakistan were due to play three T20’s here but unfortunately the rain gods won in two of those games. Given we have had plenty of rain around during this competition you simply have to keep an eye on the radar. The showers are short but heavy, and while we might not lose the game we have lost plenty of overs.

RECOMMENDED BET:

We have an interesting market here. If you look at both sides on paper, you might lean towards St Kitts now they have added Rashid Khan to the bowling line-up. The problem is their openers haven’t really fired and that has put pressure on the middle order. Barbados Royals have a very settled squad and an XI that know their roles very well. Given their fantastic run in this tournament so far, I was surprised to see them trading as big as 1.8 when I clicked into the market. I know St Kitts have some big name players now, but I’m happy to be on Barbados at the odds.

The Edge Says:
Two points win Barbados Royals to beat St Kitts & Nevis Patriots at 1.8 with Betdaq Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Given we’ve had such a long break without seeing CPL cricket here, I wouldn’t go into the game with a set in-play strategy. We finish the group stage of the tournament here, and we will get an idea on conditions here for the next few days. We should be able to form a better plan for trading in-running after seeing conditions, and for this game I would keep stakes small. Main things would be to keep an eye on the radar to see any trading opportunities that pop up from the weather, and also how the Barbados openers attack the game early. They batted very slowly in the only game they lost, but usually they attack from the start. Their intent will lead the way early in my opinion.
