THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Wednesday’s IPL clash between Chennai Super Kings v Delhi Capitals with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

Chennai Super Kings v Delhi Capitals

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The IPL continues on Wednesday as Chennai Super Kings host Delhi Capitals on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. CSK will be fully expected to win this game with Delhi Capitals sitting bottom of the table, however Delhi come into the game having won four of their last five games and they were very impressive at the weekend beating RCB! Phil Salt smashed 87 off just 45 balls but Warner, Marsh and Rossouw all chipped in too. Although Delhi haven’t played good cricket this IPL, it’s fair to say they come into this game playing their best cricket of the season.

Whether or not that’s good enough to beat CSK is the question. CSK have roared back this season after finishing with the joint-worst points record last season. Their batting has really impressed this season, and their bowling has been solid. Obviously they’ve had their off days – the IPL is so competitive there’s no one standout team; everyone can beat everyone. However, CSK are in a really good place – they are playing with confidence and they look pretty much locked into a playoff spot at least. Everyone is obviously pushing for the top two spots.

CSK come into the game as the hot favourites, but the Delhi batting and bowling have finally come to the IPL party in recent weeks. This game might be closer than the odds suggest!

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This will be the sixth fixture at Chennai and we’ve had a range of scores so far. The low scores have been chased with overs to spare, so I would lean towards a high scoring game but you always have to be worried about a big spinning wicket in Chennai. The first inning scores have been 217/7 (won), 175/8 (won), 134/7 (chased), 200/4 (chased) and 139/8 (chased). Even in the two games where the side who batted first won, the side chasing came close and generally we get a dew here so I would bowl first. I feel you just have a better chance of winning the game from there.

RECOMMENDED BET:

As I said above, I feel Delhi can make this game closer than the odds suggest. Their batters have finally hit form, and their top order is excellent on paper. Warner and Salt make a good opening pair – it gives Warner a chance to settle in and eases the pressure. That being said, Delhi have been poor at times so I’m keeping stakes limited. CSK have impressed me, but the 1.75 feels a little short. Delhi have hit form, and it’s a good time to support them in my opinion. This bet is purely from a value point of view – I feel CSK are a couple of ticks too short.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

The first thing I would do here is confirm what kind of wicket we have. As I said above, you always have to be careful to avoid the spinning wicket here, and we’ve already had a range of scores. Scores of 200+ to 140 in pretty much Chennai in my opinion – either way I feel it will be an edge to bowl first. I feel the best in-running trading option would be supporting the Delhi top order if they chase with a dew – that could see plenty of market movement. Their bowling has impressed recently too, so they could easily bowl CSK out too in the first innings.
