Mumbai Indians v Delhi Capitals

MATCH OVERVIEW:

It’s crunch time at the IPL on Wednesday! We quite possibly have the biggest game of the IPL season yet on BETDAQ Betting Exchange as Mumbai Indians clash with Delhi Capitals. You only have to look at the table to see how important this game is! The top three – Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings – have moved away now so that only leaves one playoff spot. Mumbai Indians are currently sitting in that fourth spot, and just behind them sit Delhi Capitals – only one point behind so a win would see them jump over Mumbai Indians. Both sides have a game in hand on Kolkata Knight Riders behind them, so it’s hard to see KKR being a factor – they do play Sunrisers Hyderabad in their final game and they have been poor, but Mumbai are two points ahead already have a much better net run rate.

Obviously there will be drama to come in the sides final games – somewhat ironically, Punjab Kings play both of them so they will have a massive say in who gets that final playoff spot. Mumbai Indians will be hoping to put it to bed now, obviously a win would do that and they do come into the game as the heavy favourites. They are actually one of the shortest prices we’ve seen this IPL. Delhi Capitals come into this game with no momentum – finishing the tournament in an ambulance as they say! They have lost three of their last four games, and they should have lost four in a row too but the rain saved them as they were aiming to defend only 133/7 against Sunrisers Hyderabad which was going to be very unlikely.

Mumbai Indians started the tournament slowly, but they have had some of the best momentum mid-tournament putting six wins together. They’re winning run finally came to an end at the weekend after the break, in a game that went to the final ball against table toppers Gujarat Titans. This should be a good game, a high stakes game!

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This is the last game at the Wankhede in Mumbai this season. It’s generally a high scoring ground, but the scores haven’t been exceptionally high scoring this season. The first inning scores have been; 116 all out (chased), 221/5 (won), 162/5 (chased), 176/5 (chased), 215/7 (won), and 155/8 (chased). It definitely feels like you need 200+ if you bat first; unless you’re getting there you just aren’t putting the chasing side under enough pressure. I’d chase if I won the toss.

RECOMMENDED BET:

As I said above, Mumbai Indians come into the game as the red-hot favourites. They are currently trading 1.57 which is a quite short price by IPL standards to be honest. Obviously the quality in every side is quite high – every year we have under-performing sides but every side generally has a number of stars – it’s like the NFL in that sense. Usually from a value point of view, I would lean towards laying odds like this but there really isn’t anything positive to say about Delhi the way they are finishing the tournament. They should have four losses in a row bar the weather. It’s hard to see past Mumbai here, and I’m going to keep stakes small.

The Edge Says:

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

As I said above, I wouldn’t go into this game just expecting a high score. The Wankhede hasn’t exactly produced the usual 200+ scores we have had here in the past. I do feel chasing will offer a slight edge here; but I also have to say it’s hard to have any confidence in Delhi given their current run, so I think this game will be about picking the right moments to get on Mumbai.
