It’s funny how the fixture list throws up these situations – the sides met at the weekend in the FA Cup – every season we always get a back-to-back fixture somewhere in the season! The game was here, and Brighton bounced back from going 1-0 behind early to grind out a 2-1 win. Chelsea have been struggling lately – as soon as people started calling them the main challengers to Liverpool for the title they went five games without a win in the Premier League!
We have a very similar market here compared to the weekend, Chelsea have actually come in a little in the betting. At the weekend in the FA Cup, Chelsea were trading 2.38 to win. Chelsea are 2.3 here with Brighton 3.2 and the draw is 3.85 at the time of writing. As I said at the weekend, it’s easy to pick holes in both clubs at the moment – Chelsea have obviously been rough their rough patch in the Premier League. While Brighton have been quite poor this season – a 7-0 hammering against Nottingham Forest prior to their FA Cup game against Chelsea made the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
As I said in my preview of the game at the weekend, you wanted to see a positive reaction from Brighton to that result, and we did get that. However, they’ve only managed two wins from their last twelve Premier League games. Those wins came against Ipswich, who are in the relegation zone, and Manchester United who have been very poor at Old Trafford this season. I stayed out of the match odds market last weekend, and I’m happy to do the same again here.
We landed a confident bet on Over 2.5 goals when the sides met on Saturday – it was trading 1.54 then, and I was surprised to see Overs trading bigger when I clicked into the market here. Over 2.5 goals looks cracking value at 1.59 in my opinion. Chelsea have been very sloppy at the back on this current run, and Brighton have been all over the place at times. It’s not often you see a Brighton clean sheet! I feel we’ll see another open game with plenty of action at both ends of the pitch, and I feel we’re getting enough value at 1.59 to start the Premier League weekend with a Five Star NAP!
