SOUTHAMPTON V NEWCASTLE

8pm The Carabao Cup Semi-Finals kick off on Tuesday as Southampton take on Newcastle on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. You’d have to feel that this will be a very tough task for Southampton over two-legs, but at the same time it’s a brilliant opportunity to reach a big Final at Wembley. Newcastle are having their best season for many, many years in the Premier League as they sit in third, but it’s a different story for Southampton who sit bottom of the table at the moment.

It was another massive weekend at the bottom of the Premier League table, and unfortunately for Southampton they broke their winning run with a 1-0 loss at home to Aston Villa. It was a close game but Villa created the better chances and deserved to win – it had looked like Cup football had broken Southampton out of their poor Premier League form with wins over Crystal Palace and Manchester City, and now after that setback they can aim to get back to winning ways here.

Newcastle also dropped points at the weekend. They still sit nicely in the Top Four after Manchester United lost to Arsenal on Sunday, and they have a little cushion on Spurs too. At the moment, you have to feel they have an excellent chance of getting Champions League football! Despite having to settle for a 0-0 draw at the weekend against Crystal Palace, they dominated the game and deserved to win. There was nothing wrong with the performance, and they finished the game with an xG of 1.78.

If Southampton are going to have any chance of getting through to the Final, they have to get something from this game. They have to go to St James with at least a draw, but ideally they need to be ahead really. The problem with that is Southampton have been very poor at home this season, and Newcastle have been excellent in general. Southampton have only managed six points at home all season, which puts them bottom of the home form table.

When you look at the Newcastle stats, you can see why they are sitting in the Top Four. They are creating an average xG of 2.0 and only conceding an average of 1.1. They are very impressive stats – and to be honest Newcastle have been superb going forward this season. You can see Southampton have issues up front this season because their average xG created is only 1.1 and I can only see one winner here. Newcastle have been the much better side this season, and while I know Cup football has suited Southampton recently I can see them coming up short here. This Newcastle side has offered a lot of value this season because they have been playing so well, and they are worth backing at 1.78.

The Striker Says:
Two points win Newcastle to beat Southampton at 1.78 with BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.
