GERMANY V SCOTLAND

8pm Euro 2024 finally arrives on Friday night as the hosts Germany kick off the tournament against Scotland. It’s going to be a fantastic summer of football on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE, and hopefully we get off to an entertaining start! Germany come into this fixture as the red-hot favourites, and there’s going to be a lot of pressure on them after a World Cup exit at the Group stage. Since then they’ve had a poor Nations League and a change in manager – Julian Nagelsmann seems to be managed to breathe new life into the squad and the fans. However, given they didn’t have to qualify for this tournament most of the optimism is based on friendly wins over France and the Netherlands.

Hansi Flick’s spell ended in disaster, but there’s nothing like being the host to make the fans forget about the past! The reality is that Germany haven’t managed to win a knock out game since Euro 2016; that needs to change here and you could argue that the pressure is a little off their shoulders given everyone is looking at England and France. Scotland have improved a lot in recent years, and they could easily cause Germany problems here. The market is very confident on a home win however; Germany are trading 1.29 with Scotland 13.5 and the draw is 6.4 at the time of writing.

Scotland have been to eleven major tournaments and never got past the Group stage. You get the feeling though that they could actually break that here. They gave Spain a real scare in qualifying – they beat them with home advantage but ended up finishing four points behind them. They kept Erling Haaland and Norway out of this tournament! In a Group along with Hungary and Switzerland; Scotland have an excellent chance of going through as it looks very open in my opinion. Plus; Germany have had obvious issues at the back recently so you wouldn’t be fully confident on the hosts winning all three of their Group games.

I have to say I was surprised to see Germany trading as short as 1.29 when I clicked into the market. As I said above, Scotland have hugely improved in recent times. They finished top of their Nations League Group to move up into an A Group next time around. However, Scotland do have some injury worries and that has made some big changes to their system. They’ve definitely lost their attacking flare, and given that Germany’s weakness is at the back, the home side could “get away” with that here. It will be interesting to see how Scotland approach the game, in my opinion they’ll opt for a very cagey XI men behind the ball to try and make the game as frustrating as possible for Germany.

While I do feel that the 1.29 is too short on Germany, I’m happy to stay out of the match odds market. I couldn’t put anyone off a small lay on Germany as I do feel that the game will be closer than those odds suggest, however I feel the goals market offers some very good value here. Under 2.5 goals is a very appealing bet at 2.28 in what should be a very tight game. Germany will have to make all the running here against a Scottish side that would be a very happy with a draw. Scotland have focused on defence recently with a 5-4-1 formation and if Germany are going to get the win, they are going to have to work very hard for it. I think we’ll have a quiet start to the tournament, and Unders looks the value at 2.28.

The Ultra Says:
Two points win Under 2.5 goals at 2.28 with BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.
