GREYHOUND PREVIEW: In this week’s preview Barry looks at Romford on Friday night. He also looks forward to the quarter finals of the St Leger at Limerick and quarter finals of the Irish Sprint Cup at Dundalk on Saturday night. All with recommended BETDAQ bets.

Good Quality Card at Romford on Friday

As usual Romford have put on an excellent quality card this Friday evening it what looks to be a much quieter weekend than usual in the UK. In Ireland, its quarter final time in the Irish Sprint Cup at Dundalk and the St Leger at Limerick. The Juvenile Derby at Shelbourne Park was due to commence this Friday but has been put back a week due to a lack of entries.

Friday Night at Romford

Knockbawn Daisy steps up to contest a Maiden Open at Romford on Friday evening. The daughter of Ballymac Best could hardly be in better form having won her last five, in fact she is unbeaten since making the switch from Ireland and looks the one to be on in the 7:11 contest. Shelbys Girl in two rates her main danger. She has some cracking Irish form but does need to but an average run at Monmore recently behind her. The winner should come from this pair. Tullymurry Dylan is another runner in cracking form and will be seeking a five timer when he contests the sprint at 7:27. He got the better of the reopposing Cairo King last time out, but I think Cairo King can turn the tables this time. King was well fancied in that contest but carried little luck and compensation awaits.

The stayers are in action at 8:19 where Fabulous Sonique will have her supporters, she has been running consistently well around here of late and will look to make every yard. Ballymac Johnjo is talented but frustrating at times. The lack of a runner in five will help Johnjo but he needs to turn handy if he is to get the better of Fabulous Sonique. Plenty of early pace is on show in the 8:36, Avarua Zlatan has some fine form around Oxford and track newcomer Hawkfield Diego has shown fine early around Sunderland. Churchfield Fly and the inform Droopys Pamela can also fly to the turn, and it looks a real minefield for punters. The safest option may be local tracker Emersons Dream. He has steadily improved through the grade here in recent runs and there may just be a possibility of crowding on the inside on the run to the corner.

One of the races of the night is the 9:29 where early pace will once again be the name of the game. Shirleys Boy and El Hombre Viejo have both won their last two starts making all on each occasion, the latter is on a four timer and has a perfect draw with nothing in five. Cunnigar Yousir and Rapido Lady are more than capable on their day while Piemans Goalie returns from a few weeks off. It was hard not to be impressed by El Hombre Viejo’s victory last time out and he can score once again at the expense of Cunnigar Yousir.

Irish Sprint Cup-Dundalk

Quarter Final time in the Irish Sprint Cup this Saturday at Dundalk and we are left with a host of Irelands very best, including Irish Derby Winner The Other Kobe, 2022 Derby Runner-Up Ballymac Finn, Champion Stakes winner Trinity Junior, last year’s winner Carrick Keano and recent track record breaker Broadstrand Syd. Ballymac Finn has a good draw in the opening quarter and should get the better of Fleadh Rileigh. Broadstrand Syd has been the star of the event so far but will have to bring his A game if he is to see of defending champion Carrick Aldo who ran a cracker last weekend. Trinity Junior was visually very impressive last time out and has a good draw on the inside of Peppered Sean.

Fastest winner of round two was Elite Kursk and he will have a big say from six. The last of the quarters features last years derby winner The Other Kobe and he faces a tough task if he is the beat Road Exile, exciting youngster Dynamic Force, and kennel companion Romeo Taylor. Despite his advancing years I still think there is more to come from Kobe, and he could go well at a price.

St Leger at Limerick

We are also down to the last twenty-four in the Irish St Leger, Carmac King still heads the betting despite Unanimouspanther being comfortably fastest in round two. Panther looks the one to beat in the opening heat but do not write off Clonbrien Treaty just yet! Ballyhimikin Rex was behind the reopposing Miami King last week, but I fancy Rex to turn the form around in the second quarter.

In Good Time will be popular to win the third quarter final and its hard to oppose him, he has been running extremely well of late and will be my best bet on the Limerick card. The last heat looks a cracker, but Carmac King may just get first run on Knockeen Dazzler and hopefully hold of the big finishers Coolavanny Otto and Jaytee Craze.

All the best
Barry
