TWO OUT OF THREE FOR SHAMROCK: Rockyaboya (WON 7/1) was SHAMROCK’s place recommendation in the big chase yesterday and he also had a successful lay of 6/5 chance Moyle Park.

A good day yesterday – despite the nap Sizing Europe getting beaten. Perhaps the years are beginning to at last catch up as he looked very tired in the closing stages.

Otherwise though it was better news with the lay Moyle Park getting well beaten at 6/5 and the place bet Rockyaboya winning the Paddy Power Chase at 7/1.

It’s back to Leopardstown today for the two big races:

1:50 woodiesdiy.com Christmas Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 3m, 4 runners) Just the four runners with the defection of Solwhit but realistically it’s a three runner affair with Whatuthink looking to be outclassed. It’s pretty close in the BETDAQ market between the trio with Zaidpour (2.07) Mala Beach (3.3) and Rule The World (4.4) the prices at the time of writing. Colleague DAQMAN is keen on the chances of Mala Beach and it’s easy to see why. He’s been peforming well over 2m 4f and could be even better suited by the extended trip here. Zaidpour holds Rule The World after their performances in the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse where they finished 2nd and 4th respectively behind Jezki. Mala Beach has 7lb to find on official ratings but as a five-year-old he could easily find it especially if the trip suits as expected and he’s definitely the value in the race.

2:55 Lexus Chase (Grade 1) (5yo+, Class 1, 3m, 9 runners) A fantastic renewal and if we get a finish half as exciting as last year when Tidal Bay won we’ll be in for a treat. Gold Cup winner Bobs Worth is favourite but I’m not sure I can be backing him after a very lacklustre run when favourite at Haydock in the BF Chase. There’s also a question mark over Gold Cup runner-up Sir Des Champs who fell last time and Willie Mullins has had a few reversals this week. With those doubts I’m with First Lieutenant today who should strip a lot fitter after his reappearance at Down Royal and at around 8 looks decent value. Unioniste arrives in form for Paul Nicholls but still looks a little out of his depth for my money in this league.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: First Lieutenant (2.55 Leopardstown)
NEXT BEST: Mala Beach (1.50 Leopardstown)
