CAN URANO EVER WIN A RACE? SHAMROCK looks at the curious case of Urano who has form figures of 22222S and looks set to go off a short priced favourite yet again at Thurles this afternoon.

It seems right on a morning when I’m about to talk about an eccentric horse (possibly putting it kindly) to reflect on the antics of my nap yesterday.

Moonlight Boy is one to treat with extreme caution – not only did he unship his rider before the start but he also pulled hard during the race and eventually jumped so far right that he proved impossible to steer. It’s one thing to take the scenic route – but he went in areas previously untouched by equines at Naas 🙁 Inevitably, he was pulled up and the winning start of the naps in 2014 came to a crashing end.

And now to the curious case of Urano. Or more a case of “How Do You Solve A Problem Like Urano….”. He certainly has ability – he won three French bumpers – but so far even the maestro that is Willie Mullins has failed to chalk up a win over hurdles with him. He has finished second five times on the spin and then last time out over course and distance, when looking likely to win (…. and land my nap), he clipped heels and came down just before the last flight.

His defeats have come at odds of:

7/2, 13/8, 1/2, 1/3, 4/7, 11/8

The tempter for backers is that, even with that catalogue of misery, he still brings the best form to the table for the maiden hurdle at 2.15.

I’ll side with him again. Seventh time lucky as no one ever said.
