FIVE NAPS – FOUR OF THEM BANKERS – BUT BETDAQ IS THE WINNER: Daqman made it five naps in a row, four of them bankers, with Grandeur (WON 4-5) in the Winter Derby Trial yesterday, but he declares BETDAQ the winner. ‘I was amazed to get 2.66 on Saturday morning,’ says Daqman.

THE PERCENTAGES ARE IN YOUR FAVOUR: ‘When you are lumping on at short prices, you need a bit of an edge, odds better than anyone else can hope for, and the morning offers give you that percentage.’ Here are his fab five from Tuesday to Saturday:

WON 5-4 ELUSIVE HAWK (nap, 3.3 on BETDAQ)
WON 10-11 HOLYWELL (banker, 2.24 on BETDAQ).
WON 4-11 SHOTAVODKA (banker, 2.28 in running)
3rd 9-4 REGAL DAN (place banker)
WON 4-5 GRANDEUR (banker, 2.66 on BETDAQ)

DAQMAN 24, PRICEWISE 8: Daqman and Pricewise finished 1-2 as they battled out the Eider Chase, with winnings for both, Daqman’s win-and-place bet, Smoking Aces (2nd 6-1 from 8.6 on BETDAQ), beaten threeparts of a length at the line. The score is now Daqman 24 returns, Pricewise 8.

Yes, I can’t make it pay without BETDAQ. We’ve never had it so good. We get amazing morning offers within percentages which mean that virtually anything you back is value.

Then, as the race approaches, you get market vibes which put the race in your pocket, like the huge gamble on Irving and the strength behind Activial. Neither could be ignored and both are surely destined to play a big hand at Cheltenham.

Getting 3.3 about a 5-4 nap on Tuesday was the start of it. Then to watch a long odds-on shot (Shotavodka, in fact) jumping his field into the ground yet only a shade of odds on in the morning and better than evens in running..!

Finally, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the morning 2.66 about yesterday’s banker. I’d priced him up at 6-4 on at best, literally a Group horse among handicappers.

Thanks to the morning BETDAQ value, I shaded a profit about Smoking Aces and would have backed Tour Des Champs win and place, too, had I known that the 8.4 I took on BETDAQ would shrink to 9-2 SP.  Trust the people’s exchange!

3.10 Fontwell (National Spirit Hurdle) Stars like My Way de Solzen, Lough Derg and Celestial Halo have won this. But it can vary dramatically in quality.

In three of the last five years, horses rated 145-149 have won, yet the two others scored off 162 and 163, though there was only a few pounds difference in the weights the five carried.

Today’s race has a similar standout, a 165 horse, Saphir Du Rheu giving only 4lb maximum to a 150 and a 142, with the others nearly two stone adrift.

‘Saphir’ is forced to go this Graded route over hurdles now that his December-to-February hat-trick, including the Lanzarote and the Welsh Champion Hurdle has shot him up 35lb to that lofty 165, putting further handicaps out of reach.

In fact, he has absolutely nowhere to go! It’s pointless training him for the World Hurdle, which contains half a dozen ‘monsters’, among them Big Buck’s, of course.

I am going to assume that today is Saphir’s World Hurdle (unless there is an injury to Big Buck’s), then he will be put away for chasing.

Meister Eckhart is likely to need the race, with his target the Coral Cup. He was second in this last year before finishing runner-up in the Cheltenham race, and was also in the frame in a similar handicap at the Aintree Festival.

Meister Eckhart could bounce back here after flopping over fences. Given time to recover, he was then rested further during Alan King’s shutdown in January.

Chris Pea Green is having his first try at this extra distance, and will be held up. But Kayf Moss likes to make them all go. If he takes on Saphir Du Rheu, I might get a price about the favourite in running, when layers are looking for trades and backers are getting nervous and want to lay off. I could do with something like the 2.28 Shotovodka, please!
