11/8 WINNING NAP: SHAMROCK heads into Guineas weekend with an 11/8 WINNING NAP on Friday. JUST GORGEOUS (NAP) WON 11/8 and was SHAMROCK’s only bet yesterday – holding on in a photo in the final race at Cork under birthday boy Joseph O’Brien.

A nice winning NAP yesterday with JUST GORGEOUS WON 11/8 who provided Joseph O’Brien with an 11/8 winner at Cork on his 21st birthday !!

He only prevailed by a short head getting up on the line to beat Ode To Psyche.

A huge day of racing at the Curragh with the 2000 Guineas the obvious highlight – and is one of three Group races in a row.

The latest going, as tweeted by the course is:

The ground at the Curragh is now yielding to soft (straight) and yielding (round) following 5.6mm rain overnight.

2:45 Weatherbys Ireland Greenlands Stakes (Group 3) (3yo+, Class 1, 6f, 6 runners)

UK trainers have won the last five runnings of this but I can safely say they won’t do so again as they have no entries! Maarek has been a grand servant and had his biggest pay day to date in the Prix De L’Abbaye at Longchamp last season. He subsequently disappointed at Ascot on Champions Day but seemed to be back to form when winning the Group 2 Duke Of York Clipper Logistics Stakes at York last time out. The overnight rain will have helped his cause and I’m napping him.

3:20 Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas (Group 1) (3yo, Class 1, 1m, 14 runners)

It’s very hard to get away from the obvious choice here, Kingman, who went off a short priced favourite for the Newmarket equivalent but just found Night Of Thunder half a length too good. It was a surprising result as Kingman has previously beaten him comprehensively in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury. Aidan O’Brien has won five of the last six runnings of this and his main hopes this time lie with War Command who finished ninth in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket after never getting competitive and he may well come up short again.

3:55 Lanwades Stud Stakes (Fillies’ Group 3) (4yo+, Class 1, 1m, 14 runners)

The market leaders have a good record here but this is a much more open renewal. Time again to rely on the stable in form, Dermot Weld, and Big Break who already has winning form at Group 3 level and ran well on her final start of last season when runner-up to Francis Of Assisi in the Listed Knockaire Stakes at Leopardstown.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Maarek (2.45 Curragh)
NEXT BEST: Kingman (3.20 Curragh)
