STRONG IRISH CHALLENGE FOR THE LADBROKE: There’s a strong Irish challenge amongst the 22 entries for The Ladbroke at Ascot on Saturday.
Even by my standards it will be leaving it late to get some of the Christmas shopping expenses in, but hopefully there will be an Irish trained winner of The Ladbroke at Ascot on Saturday.
The Nicky Henderson trained Sign Of A Victory was the original ante-post favourite with the sponsors but there’s been plenty of early interest in the Harry Fry trained Activial and the pair were trading as 5/1 joint favourites this morning.
David Williams from Ladbrokes said: “A considerable gamble has developed on Activial. He is unexposed and is clearly fancied to rediscover the best of his novice form of last term and make a mockery of his mark of 137.”
Best of the Irish challenge could come from Clondaw Warrior – Willie Mullins’ only entry in the race.
He won the November Handicap at Leopardstown on his final flat start and was a pleasing third behind Garde La Victoire in the Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham in November.
