198 POINTS PROFIT IN TWO DAYS: Fantastic Friday became super Saturday as Daqman continued his devastating run, following up 110 points profit from 10 winning bets on Friday with another 88 points from four more yesterday, this time with stakes boosted and winners including 6-1 and 9-2. His haul means he can now make these New Year boasts:
A hat-trick of naps
Back-to-back bankers
Two Bull’s-Eye bets up (76.50 profit)
Six lays in a row
Extended 13-8 lead over Pricewise
14 wins in two days
EASY-ABC LANZAROTE WIN AT 9-2: He went two up on Pricewise in the Lanzarote Hurdle at 9-2 with the horse that came top of his ABC Guide, and then with a 6-1 winner, before Pricewise hit back, Daqman missing out on his second best Warwick Classic pick, Hawkes Point, unable to change his original first choice, which was a non-runner. His winners were:
WON 1-1 Kingscourt Native (banker nap)
WON 9-4 Captain Joy
WON 9-2 Tea For Two (Lanzarote)
WON 6-1 Ardkilly Witness
TRYSTER TO OPEN THE SCORING FOR CITY
You risk being a Poly Wally! This first fixture for Chelmsford City Racecourse – the old Great Leighs with a £25m renovation – is to test the system, so invited guests only at the track today.
No such consideration for the punter: if we want a bet, and our personal system fails, we lose our cash! Nothing new there, then.
But what system? On what is forecast as a ‘mostly sunny’ day, it’s a case of wait and see whether there is any unevenness of the track, any draw bias, any special kickback problems and so on.
Just how nervous backers and layers will be puts an interesting edge on the day. Will they follow known Polytrack form? Or is that the Wally’s way?
This at a time when manmade-surface king Mike De Kock is virtually boycotting the new surface at Meydan as unsuitable to the horses he has in training until it has been raced on.
The answer at Great Leighs – sorry Chelmsford – today is that you need a fair-deal price in a punter-friendly environment, cocking your snook (pardon me!) at the ‘invited guests’ and enjoying your usual Sunday off. That sounds like an afternoon on the BETDAQ site to me!
12.50 Chelmsford Kempton and Lingfield winners are Rebellious Guest, Swing Alone and Gaelic Silver, all over this distance of 1m 2f.
Winners on Tapeta at Wolverhampton are Spes Nostra and Docs Legacy, while Tatting has won on the sand at Southwell and Tryster only on turf.
Local trainer George Margarson is the man in form and, though top weight, Rebellious Guest is now down in the handicap to within a pound of his last sucess and was back to form over too short a trip when a close third on the last day.
Gaelic Silver has been creeping up the handicap but Hector Crouch’s 7lb claim has landed him a hat-trick. Doc’s Legacy has won in this class 2 but always on an easy surface.
Tryster, for another trainer in top form, Charlie Appleby, has not looked straightforward and that type can often be best caught fresh. He was well regarded by the stable in the summer as ‘a horse with a future.’
2.20 Chelmsford The word is that low numbers are expected to do best in sprints, particularly if you have one that can lie up, yet has the stamina to see it out.
That’s a typical AW profile, whatever the track, and it perfectly fits the grey mare, Serenity Spa, winner over a mile at Lingfield last Spring, slightly out of her depth in a Listed there in November but travelled like a dream to score at Dundalk over 6f.
This drop to 5f is a worry but the track could ride for her and she looks hugely better class than level-4 winners Zac Brown and It Must Be Faith, and I expect her to get the rail and surge.
2.50 Chelmsford John Gosden, who has Zamoura favourite in the maiden, put blinkers on Tempus Temporus at Kempton in December and he absolutely cruised home.
I expect him to go on from there but Godolphin have two bites of the cherry, also running Super Kid, beaten by a Group-3 winner over 6f, stepping up to the distance, mo e in keeping with his pedigree.
Anonymous John’s success came on soft surfaces over 6f and Godolphin seem tio have this one sorted. I’ll back Super Kid, with a saver on Tempus Temporis, who may or may not continue to respond to blinkers.
SNOW? NO, IT’S ‘SUMMERY’ AT KELSO..
2.10 Kelso Kelso missed the forecast snow and offers a good veterans’ race to get stuck into. Nicky Richards’ Mister Marker is a once-a-year winner but wants deep ground and a trip and last won here at Kelso over a similar distance, off 7lb higher.
His trainer has just landed five wins in a row, including with Glingerburn, which I told you about when he won on Friday.
There are two solo travellers in the race: David Pipe sends up Poole Master from Somerset and Venetia Williams makes the journey from Hereford to saddle Summery Justice.
Poole Master is a heavy-ground scorer but steps up in distance here and, as a class-2 winner, has to give weight all round.
Summery Justice’s form is disguised, because he has raced in Midlands, Scottish and Welsh Nationals since winning a veterans’ race like this one in the mud at Newbury last March. This is his big chance to get back on the board.
Lie Forrit – two wins and three seconds at Kelso – has the Scottish National as his target but his best form is over hurdles (rated 12lb higher).
Cape Tribulation is a stone better over hurdles these days and he hasn’t won a chase for two years now. Mr Moonshine’s chasing successes last year were at 20 furlongs.
2.40 Kelso This 3m 3f hurdle will take just as much getting, and again it’s probably advisable to look down the handicap.
The weight difference is why Macgillycuddy beat Snapping Turtle at Catterick but neither has won on turf worse than good to soft.
Snuker, four times a heavy-ground chase winner, is surely better than the laboured effort of his return to hurdles on today’s course in December. He’s now 20lb below his chase mark.
