RACING BACK AT THURLES TODAY: on a quiet week for Irish racing racing resumes at Thurles this afternoon and SHAMROCK bids for his third winning nap in a row.
Racing is back today and it will a poignant day at Thurles after the sad news this week of the death of the owner and racecourse manager Pierce Molony following a lengthy illness.
Thurles is the only privately owned racecourse in Ireland and Molony was the fourth member of his family to have taken over the running of the County Tipperary course.
On today’s card, Venitien De Mai might be the best bet in the I.N.H. Stallion Owners E.B.F. Maiden Hurdle at 3.05pm.
The Jim Dreaper trained runner was unbeaten in four starts between the flags and has finished second in both starts over hurdles so far including last time out over course and distance to the Willie Mullins trained Roi Des Francs.
He was 17 lengths clear of the third horse that day and should get off the mark in this company.
