WHISTLE-STOP TOUR: Like a politician desperately campaigning for last minute votes, DAQMAN today heads around the country with bets at five venues.

DAMAGE LIMITATION: The DAQMAN staking plan mitigated losses on Monday thanks to a place return at Kempton.

17 IN THE CHESTER CUP: 17 runners will got to post for the Chester Cup on Wednesday including the Irish trained Quick Jack and hat-trick seeking Trip To Paris who has just made the cut. Don’t miss DAQMAN’s verdict on Wednesday.

It was a case of damage limitation yesterday thanks to the DAQMAN staking plan.

Just one winner from the recommended five bets (that was a place on One Big Love) but as it was staked to win 20 points – it meant that I was still in profit of 4.5 points heading towards the final selection – the nap on Duke Of Navan.

I’m afraid that one ran an absolute shocker and never looked like winning so it ended up being a 7.5 point deficit on the day. I never did like Bank Holidays !

Take a deep breath, I’m heading around the country today with bets at five venues:

BRIGHTON

The ground is good to soft which might see some jockeys explore the stands side rail as opposed to the usual route of sticking tight to the inside rail.

Richard Hannon sends just one runner to the meeting and it might be the day that Chevalier finally wins a race. He has yet to win in nine starts and the handicapper put him UP a pound for finishing second last time but his overall form is good and he has run some solid placed efforts in defeat. He also proved he could handle this ground when finishing second at Newmarket earlier in his career.

Of the dangers, Major Pusey has been tried over three difference distances so far and starts life in handicap company on a mark only two pounds lower that Chevalier which surely looks too harsh?

Mrs Eve did better at Wolverhampton last time when a close up fourth over 7f but is an unknown quantity on this softer ground.

SEDGEFIELD

Soft ground at the County Durham venue and I thought the George Moore trained Tickenwolf was an interesting play against the short priced favourite Major Ivan in the novices hurdle at 2.40.

Tickenwolf showed next to nothing in his first three starts but ran a blinder last time out at Wetherby when a staying on third at 150/1 to Aristo Du Plessis and was only beaten five lengths. Assuming the penny has clicked with the grey he represents a little value here at around 7.5 on BETDAQ.

FAKENHAM

Just six races (how quaint! – remember those days?) and some small fields. Most interesting race is the mares handicap hurdle which closes the card at 4.30pm.

Queen Spud won this last year and is back for a repeat win off a 3lb higher mark. She was well beaten in better company at Ludlow last time out and looks a little short at around 2.7.

At similar odds on the BETDAQ place market I can back the Kim Bailey trained top weight Magic Money. She hasn’t shown too much recently but takes a drop in class and I can see likely front running tactics working well for her around this tight track.

CATTERICK

Last race at Sedgefield is the 5.10pm – wonder how many punters will travel down the A1 and make the opening 6pm at Catterick?

Stepping Ahead looks one to take on in the claimer at 6.30pm despite being a long way clear on official ratings. He just seems totally out of sorts with himself and has been beaten 42 and 38 lengths in his last two races.

I prefer the chances of Lexington Bay who at least arrives in here with some consistent form and up and coming jockey Jack Garritty takes a handy 5lb off.

EXETER

The whistle-stop tour ends at Exeter and Braavos sets a fair standard in the closing bumper. It’s always dangerous when there are likely debutants around but I thought Braavos should be a shade odds-on rather than odds-against based on his highly encouraging neck debut second at Stratford where he pulled nicely clear of the third horse.

DAQMAN’S BETS (each staked to win 20 points)
