BALLINROBE CALLED OFF: Tonight’s planned meeting at Ballinrobe was called off this morning after heavy overnight rain.
After 31 millimetres of rain fell overnight at Ballinrobe the meeting has been called off.
Horse Racing Ireland tweeted: “Ballinrobe cancelled today. Track found to be unfit for racing after 31mm of rain.”
Iveagh Gardens sprung a 25/1 surprise in the Canford Cliffs EBF Athasi Stakes at the Curragh yesterday beating Epsom Oaks fancy Found into second.
Aidan O’Brien, trainer of Found, wasn’t too downbeat after the race saying: “I’m very happy with that, and she just got tired on the bad ground. We needed to run her before the Irish 1,000 Guineas, and that is where she will go now.”
Elsewhere on the card Fascinating Rock got the better of Parish Hall, as predicted, in the So You Think EBF Mooresbridge Stakes but I certainly didn’t expect him to go off as short as 2/5.
Winning trainer Dermot Weld said after the race: “He did what you would expect him to do. He’s a very good horse. He could go for a lot of those races that Famous Name ran in before, and in the second part of the year could have more serious challenges. He loves soft ground. He’s a more relaxed horse this year than last year. He’d never want firm ground. The Tattersalls Gold Cup could be considered if the ground was suitable.”
