TOP FOOTBALL AHEAD THIS WEEKEND: This is a really interesting week of football, with some real crunch ties upcoming in the Premier League.
Let’s start by looking at Saturday’s fixtures, and specifically Chelsea against West Ham. Currently Chelsea are trading at about evens, and there is reason for this. From what we have seen so far this season it is clear that Chelsea are not right, but I watched them during the week in the Champions League, and although the drew 0-0 I think they were superb.
Over the course of the past few games many of Chelsea’s key players have been dropped (Matic, Terry, Hazard), and ironically, when coming back into the team they have been massive improvements. Matic was one of Chelsea’s best players during the week, John Terry returned to looking comfortable at the back, and Zouma who was replacing another struggling player, Ivanovic was excellent at right back.
I think with a London Derby for Chelsea, evens is an excellent price when you consider what you would have gotten them at around this time last season, and take into consideration that this Chelsea team will be, I feel, the strongest it has been all season. They really looked like the team they were last season in the game during the week, even if the result didn’t reflect that.
I don’t think Chelsea looked very fit as a side at the start of the season, being run off the park by teams, but I do think they did the other night. They looked in really good condition and I think we will see a different Chelsea from here on in.
When you look at them against West Ham, I really think they can pick up a result. You’ve Jenkinson who wasn’t good enough for Arsenal, they have Collins who can really be got at, and Creswell who has done well since joining from Ipswich but is facing a step up in class.
Of course West Ham have Payet, who has been ion excellent form, Sakho has done really well when he has played, so they can be very dangerous, but the price you can get Chelsea at is too good not to back when you know how good a team this can be. With back to back clean sheets coming into the game, I feel if Chelsea can keep another one they definitely have the winning of this game.
MANCHESTER IS RED
This is the game everybody wants to hear about, Manchester Derby and top of the table clash. For this one I am all over Man United! The reason I say that, is because no Aguero is just a massive loss for Man City, especially when putting it along with a few other injury concerns in the team.
I feel that Pellegrini sides are never well enough organised. Man City win games based on talent, they have four or five players in the team that can win you a game with a wonder goal. Top teams like Barcelona have absolutely demolished Man City because they have not been organised. Now obviously Man United aren’t at the level of Barcelona, but they are disciplined and organised and I think that is why they can really get at Man City. I think this united team are the perfect antidote to what City are about; they want City to come with flair and play attacking. United are far too organised for City not be undone in this game.
I watched the Sevilla game during the week, and to be fair Sevilla had the beating of City. With the players they have out, things just aren’t quite right for City at the moment. I saw in the paper that City feel that Mangala and Otamendi are a really strong pairing in centre back for city, personally I’m not convinced. They need Kompany back in that defence, and need some of their attacking players back, because it takes something special to undo United. I think they can Nulify Sterling, so De Bruyne is the main worry, but I think they can stop their service.
KLOPP TO PICK UP FIRST WIN
Although they haven’t got the goals thus far, I think already we can see the in your face, faster style of football that Liverpool will look to play under Klopp. I feel they are not far off, if they can get Sturridge on the field they can be really good. I don’t think Benteke is the answer, as he’s not exactly the perfect fit for the Klopp style.
I think the game against Southampton is a really good one for Liverpool. The Saints are a very good side, with great attacking players. We saw them outplay Chelsea already this season and you know they will go for the win even if it is away from home, and I think this will play into Liverpool’s hands.
I think this will be one of the best games this weekend; both teams will go for the win. With players like Lallana, Coutinho and Firminio, Liverpool will try get in between Southampton and cause them trouble, which I think they can do, and that is why I am backing them this weekend.
STOKE TOO MUCH FOR WATFORD
Just a short one to finish off on. I think Stoke really have the beating of Watford. At this stage of the season this Stoke side looks they have finally got going. I think they will pick up plenty more wins for the rest of the year, and will end up having a very good season.
Mark Hughes has several weapons at his disposal in the team, they can go long, or play short with the likes of Bojan. As well as that, Mark Hughes’ teams are always very well drilled, and difficult to beat. With the combination of these I just can’t see Watford picking up any points in this game.
