THREE BETS INCLUDING A LAY: For SHAMROCK on Saturday as he looks ahead to the Oaks Trial at Lingfield and the racing this afternoon from Wexford.
Aidan O’Brien is represented in both the Oaks and Derby trials at Lingfield this afternoon but may struggle to return home with a winner.
Seventh Heaven goes in the Oaks Trial and although she won well over a mile at Dundalk last time out – there’s a big question mark over her ability to see out this trip over the contours of Lingfield which are certainly not dissimilar to Epsom.
This is not a race that O’Brien has particularly targeted with his better hopes – his last winner was Baraka in 2004 and Wedding Vow was beaten at odds-on last year. A lay for me on Seventh Heaven.
At Wexford, Dermot Weld should strike in the maiden at 2.35pm with Shinghari who seems to be progressing nicely. He made his debut at Navan when 6th of 15 and then got closer at Limerick last time out when 4th to Unyielding. I expect him to be even more effective on this quicker ground.
In the closing maiden over 1m 7f we get the chance to see the Jessica Harrington trained Rock The World on the flat for the first time. The eight-year-old is of course better known for his jumping exploits and ran at all three of the major festivals. Cheltenham (3rd in the Grand Annual), Aintree (last of seven finishers in a Grade 1 Novices’ Chase) and Punchestown where he finished runner-up in a Grade B handicap chase. That all adds up to a busy period but he seems to thrive on racing and this looks so moderate that I expect him to have the class to get off the mark.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Shinghari (2.35 Wexford)
NEXT BEST: Rock The World (5.25 Wexford)
