THURSDAY EUROPA LEAGUE: We preview Thursday’s Europa League games between Atalanta v Everton and Arsenal v FC Koln with recommended BETDAQ bets.
ATALANTA V EVERTON
6pm Everton arrive into the Europa League Group stages off the back of two losses and Wayne Rooney with more personal problems. Those losses came against Chelsea and Spurs though, so maybe we shouldn’t write too much into them with respect to this game – however they did make hard work of getting through the last two rounds and Atalanta will obviously be another step up on them.
It’s a pretty open market, with the match odds at the time of writing currently trading; Atalanta 2.4, Everton 3.35, and the draw is 3.45. You’d have to feel that winning away from home will be a very difficult task for Everton, however Atalanta have had a poor start to Serie A with only one win from three games. ARSENAL V FC KOLN
8.05pm It’s been 16 years, and Arsenal are back in the Europa League! They’d obviously like to be competing on a Tuesday or Wednesday night, and we’ve had to listen to all the jokes about Thursday nights and the fans not knowing where they are going, however they have a relatively easy start at home against Koln. This is Koln’s first time in Europe since the 1992/93 season, and they have started their domestic campaign and despite having a poor season last year, Arsenal’s home record was always good.
We have to say that when looking at this fixture we expected Arsenal to be a little shorter than their current 1.48 in the match odds market. However, the 2.2 on the -1.5 goals handicap is really appealing. Arsenal have a superb record at home in the group stages of Europe, and the 2.2 on the handicap looks way too big to ignore.
