3-1 NAP AMONG FOUR WINNERS FOR DAQMAN: Daqman blasted another hole in the sinking Pricewise ship with FOUR winners at Haydock yesterday for 75 points profit on the day, with three of his hits scoring in Pricewise races, taking him 35 points clear of the Racing Post ‘value’ tipster to a single-unit stake and 5-0 up for the season after only two weekends. The first bet of the four was a 3-1 nap.
WON 3-1 CLAN DES OBEAUX (nap, 4.6 taken on BETDAQ)
WON 9-2 LIMITED RESERVE
WON 6-1 SAM SPINNER (9.0 taken on BETDAQ)
WON 6-1 CHASE THE SPUD (8.6 taken on BETDAQ)
HE NEEDS TWO FOR 500 AGAINST PRICEWISE: That gives Daqman six naps up from the last seven. More about that tomorrow. Today he squares up to Pricewise with another big-race target, the Troytown in Ireland, needing only two more wins to notch up 500 overall against the Racing Post man, who has scored 194.
ONE TO OUTGUN SIX-SHOT GORDON!
2.35 Navan (Ladbrokes Troytown Chase) All eyes are on Gordon Elliott. After a hat-trick in this, he tries for a fourth ace with six runners.
Nine times out of 12, the race has been won off 10st 7lb or lower, among them two of Gordon’s three winners from out of the handicap, where he has Poorman’s Hill, progressive at a lower level.
But, although he has improved under Elliott, Poorman’s Hill flags up the pair who beat him easily at Ballybrit in August. They were Tesseract and Don’t Tell No One.
Flat-bred Tesseract is a doubtful stayer at this trip and on this ground, but Don’t Tell No One, a late-developing Westerner, should relish the step up.
The mare he beat at Killarney in August has scored twice since, and the third horse home has also franked the form.
Fifth in the Irish Grand National, General Principle may be best of the Elliott attack, after a prep over hurdles 10 days ago. But he is mighty close in the handicap to Acapella Bourgeois, trained by arch-rival, Willie Mullins.
Acapella ran away with the Ten Up Novices’ Chase here at Navan last February, the runner-up winning later at Cheltenham and beating Yorkhill in the Fairyhouse Ryanair.
He is one of those horses for whom mud is weight OFF his back; he loves it so much!
VERDICT: 1 Don’t Tell No One 17.5 on BETDAQ, 2 Acapella Bourgeois 4.0, and 3 General Principle 7.2.
3.05 Navan Gordon Elliott – and jockey Jack Kennedy – also look for a hat-trick in this Grade B stayers’ hurdle, this time with three runners, none from the Mullins camp.
The stable has the morning favourite in Glenloe but Kennedy rides Folsom Blue (6.6 offers on BETDAQ), who made a winning start after switching from Mouse Morris’s yard. Blue loves the deep ground and a 10-year-old won it in 2013.
Keep an eye on Baie Des Iles, who prepped in this last year before fifth in the Welsh Grand National and winner of the Punchestown National Trial.
Baie Des Iles was waited with last year but the stable is in form this time around so Katie Walsh might decide to let him go haring off in front and you could get a ride into a place (24.0 on BETDAQ).
3.35 Navan Lady Ischia has winners to beat in this, otherwise her impressive Naas debut on heavy ground would have her odds-on in any normal follow-up. In fact, she’s 3.05 on BETDAQ early mouse.
CHAMPS ON ICE AT UTTOXETER..
2.45 Uttoxeter One to follow, particularly when he goes over fences is Ice Cool Champs, a big, strong type who will love the deep ground.
Philip Hobbs takes him across country from Somerset and books Richard Johnson for this step up in trip.
2.55 Exeter Un Prophete is around 3-1 this morning but it’s 3-1 against his getting round, according to this form ‘figures’ (letters?) of PF-4F.
Crafty Roberto has caught the bridesmaid habit (2022-2), and Keep Moving is inferior to Un Prophete on form, so Ubaltique, on a lone mission from the North for in-form trainer Donald McCain, could be good enough at 5.2 in the BETDAQ orange, as I write.
