PREVIEW
Last weekend’s comfortable 3-0 win against Bolton was Tottenham’s tenth in eleven league games. Harry Redknapp’s side have been in scintillating form in recent weeks and have forced themselves into an excellent position in the table whereby if they win their game in hand, Spurs have a chance to take second place.
Even with the run Spurs are on, Redknapp will be reminding his players just what a tough place Stoke can be when they visit on Sunday. Some of Spurs’ attacking has been superb and the way they are playing suggests they could score on every attack.
In Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Rafael Van der Vaart, the visitors have genuine pace and talent in abundance and those players are ably supported by the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe. It’s not just up front that Spurs have excelled as they have only conceded once in their past three league games.
Stoke won’t be a push over though as sides as good as Chelsea and Manchester United have already found out this season. The Potters come into the clash off the back of successive wins and there’s also a cracking atmosphere to contend with for these big games at the Britannia.
Spurs are more than capable of nullifying the passionate Potters fans, but they’ll need their back four to keep up their impressive defensive efforts in order to cope with Stoke’s aerial threat.
The key to the game lies in Stoke’s susceptible defense that has shipped 15 goals in six league outings. With Spurs’ attacking options, they just look too strong for Stoke and the away win is the way to go here.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back Tottenham at around 2.08: 6 points
Saturday’s Return: +8.52
