Nearly half way through January and although I am finding it difficult I am sticking to my New Year resolution of squeezing value out of BETDAQ to make sure I take a profit each week as opposed to my old style devil may care, winner takes all attitude that either worked brilliantly or blew up in my face with no idea which would happen and when. I still like the adrenaline rush of cheering on a winner but if I can lay it at a better price in running then that is the sensible way to go sometimes, boring as that makes me feel.
Using BETDAQ for all my bets has always been something I have been proud of (better prices means more money when I find a winner), but I may well have been guilty on occasions of ignoring the back and lay sides of the same coin but last week I started laying favourites to place if only to small stakes for starters – and it worked!
Saturday is always the best betting day, televised, better quality, and more money in the BETDAQ pots mean sensible markets and the chance to hear the “kerching” of the money rolling in. One meeting seemed a sensible way to start so I settled on Lingfield on the all-weather, and without boring you with the details I came up with four placed favourites (boo) and four unplaced favourites (hoorah) for a small profit of a point, but money is money and I decided I might be on to something after all. Naturally that meant I tried again on Sunday over the jumps at Hereford, which ended up with three short priced places and four out of the frame. With the short odds involved the losses were minimal and another three points were added to the bank, though like all punters I now wish I had laid them to larger stakes.
Thankfully, those profits ALMOST made up for my appalling bets on the Rugby Union where two bets resulted in two losses but once again football came to my rescue with a decent sized bet on Oxford to beat Aldershot and a comfortable 0-3 scoreline.
This weekend I am as confident as ever that we will make more money (keep the faith, we haven’t gone far wrong so far), and I may even cross the ocean for a small bet on the American football though be warned, my advice is based on others information. I have always been a fan of the Green Bay Packers if only because their name is so mundane compared to “Steelers”, “Lions”, and “Broncos” et al, but at odds on I cannot back them and will stick to watching them hopefully without financial involvement.
That said, I do feel that if ever there has been a sport capable of upsets (often due to key personnel being injured during a game), then this is it and at odds of 7.0 or bigger with BETDAQ, I do feel the Denver Broncos have a chance away to the heavily odds on New England Patriots. Make no mistake, Denver have an effective attack and will score a few touch downs, the real question is whether their defence can shut up the home attack, and I am hopeful more than confident if I am totally honest hence the minimal bet.
Much as I love my horse racing I seem to make more profit out of the footie lately, and I expect to do so again, starting with a decent bet on ASTON VILLA to beat my beloved Everton. BETDAQ Odds of 2.45 are far too generous for the home team who have the likes of Darren Bent (like him or loathe him, her scores goals) the lightening quick Gabriel Agbonlahor, and now Robbie Kean on loan to bang them in the back of the net. Everton, on the other hand are desperately short at centre back with Phil Jagielka out injured and Silvin Distin limping off Wednesday night while they are struggling to score at the other end, so sadly I can only see one result which I shall use to drown my sorrows after the game lol.
At the risk of upsetting others I also have a bit of a soft spot for Crystal Palace who have some of the most loyal fans out there (some would say they have to be), but they are also struggling from an appalling injury list, which may well let Leeds in at Selhurst Park. Odds with my fellow BETDAQ punters of 2.9 for the away team look too good to miss to me and although no “good things”, seem worthy of a bet at the price.
Lastly for this week we need a little horse racing action (well, I do anyway), and although it’s not easy to call at this stage, there is a classy meeting from Kempton, which includes the Lanzarote Hurdle due off at 2.50. A tricky two mile five furlong handicap, even the favourite is trading at about the 8.3 mark on BETDAQ which shows you jut how open a contest it really is. I am unconvinced by favourite Decoy (only just held on over this trip at Cheltenham off a mark seven pounds lower two races ago) or second favourite Swincombe Flame (lost on his only attempt past two miles and a furlong), so maybe a small each way bet is the option this week? Chain Of Command may be a nine year old but he only has eleven races on his CV so is short on mileage if not ability. His chase rating of 127 may reflect his true ability in which case he is well in here off a mark of 123 and although his stamina is a question mark, he ran on well over two furlongs less on his first run for eight months when last seen at Stratford and at 23.0 or so on BETDAQ, he has to be worth a little win and place on the day?
This week’s suggested bets:
