PLAN FOR GERMAN RACING RESTART DEFERRED TO THURSDAY: Germany’s racing restart has been pushed back to Thursday at Hanover, with the Monday card on the Dortmund sand-track postponed. France still hopes for a resumption next Monday, May 11, and England – perhaps more realistically – on May 23. Ireland is looking for clarity on a lockdown statement from government that there will be no sport behind closed doors until June 29.
DOUBLE OF GUINEAS PUZZLES BEATS THE SUNDAY CROSSWORD: Daqman ‘ran’ his own version of the Newmarket 2,000 Guineas, with form and facts yesterday. Today it’s the turn of the 1,000 Guineas. He has decided to keep both ‘results’ under his hat until tomorrow. Finding both winners is better than the Sunday crossword!

FIRST FILLIES CLASSIC LOOKS STRONG
Fillies and mares have dominated. Like a women’s-rights movement, led by Enable, and fostered particularly by John Gosden and Aidan O’Brien, the equine girls have been keeping the colts down.
So in many ways this year’s belated 1,000 Guineas, given depth by some who will clearly be long-distance divas, is the most fascinating of the early Classics, particularly if Pinatubo continues to tick off all the colts’ events.
Jessica Harrington is a strong force for the good of the fillies with a prile of powerful sorts in Albigna, Alpine Star and Millisle.
It was roger and out when three more fillies, Quadrilateral (Roger Charlton), Daahyeh and Jaariyeh – both Roger Varian – were to be seen on the cards.
As with the 2,000, I’ve had to assume that, for the purposes of the race itself, as we expect it to be run, the potential Irish and French raiders will not be able to travel.
But I have included the form of all the top-line contenders. Watch this space for news of racing resumption throughout Europe.

🏇 Albigna Sixth to Love in the Moyglare but a revelation on very soft ground, drawing clear in the Marcel Boussac (1m) at Longchamp. However, the runner-up was the same distance behind Tropbeau at Deauville.
🏇 Alpen Rose Always in rear, possibly not coping with the mud, when behind Born With Pride over a mile at Newmarket late on, but earlier kept on, third, to Powerful Breeze and Boomer in the May Hill.
🏇 Alpine Star The Debutante Stakes at the Curragh in August is usually a stepping-stone for an O’Brien diva (Magical, Rhododendron) but Alpine Star, needing all of the 7f, beat off three Ballydoyle fillies, including So Wonderful (fourth) and 6-4 favourite Love (fifth).
🏇 Boomer Needed only hands-and-heels riding to beat Dark Lady in the Ladbrokes Prestige Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. Beaten a length by Powerful Breeze in a driving finish for the May Hill, with Alpen Rose a neck away third, but only fifth behind Quadrilateral, Powerful Breeze and Love in the Fillies Mile at Newmarket on softish ground.
🏇 Born With Pride Loved a mile in the mud at Newmarket on sole start in November, beating O’Brien favourite, Peaceful (Alpen Rose sixth; see above). Born With Pride’s breeding is packed with stamina.
🏇 Cloak Of Spirits Beaten favourite when sixth behind Powerful Breeze in the May Hill but improved to finish third to Daahyeh in the Rockfel at Newmarket.
🏇 Daahyeh After beating Raffle Prize at Newmarket, was then winner or second in five consecutive Group races, taking the Albany at Royal Ascot and the Rockfel but runner-up to Love in the Moyglare and beaten favourite when Raffle Prize had her revenge at the July meeting.
🏇 Dark Lady Neck runner-up, but well held by Boomer in the Ladbrokes Prestige Stakes at Goodwood.
Stepped up for Salisbury defeat of Millisle but flopped behind the same filly (Raffle Prize second and Tropbeau third) when they met again for the Cheveley Park.
🏇 Jaariyah The daughter of sire-of-the-moment Shamardal was a strong winner of her only start at Kempton in October.
🏇 Khayzaraan Kingman filly out of a Dubawi mare, she was a wide margin winner at both Deauville and Chantilly in the late summer.
🏇 Love Gradual improvement from Group-3 win in July to defeat of Daahyeh and So Wonderful in the Moyglare and Fillies Mile third to Quadrilateral and Powerful Breeze. In between she was outrun by Alpine Star after leading two out at the Curragh.
🏇 Love Locket Ballydoyle late developer, whose dam is a half-sister to High Chaparral; expected to improve for longer distances.
🏇 Millisle Held just a shorthead by Dark Lady at Salisbury (6f Group 3), with Summer Romance well-beaten third. Led inside final furlong to beat Raffle Prize and Tropbeau in the Cheveley Park.
🏇 Passion Sister to the Irish Derby and St Leger winner Capri, she should come into her own this season. Not clear run, seventh in the May Hill.
🏇 Powerful Breeze Still looked unfurnished when beat Boomer to win the May Hill and improved when going down a head to Quadrilateral (Love third, Boomer only fifth) in the Fillies Mile. Said to be sidelined until second half of the season but reintroduced into some markets recently.
🏇 Quadrilateral Frankel’s daughter surged past Powerful Breeze and Love to win the Fillies Mile, after back-to-back successes at Newbury, where she’d still looked green.
🏇 Raffle Prize Slowly away but led from three out before caught by Millisle in the Cheveley Park, with Tropbeau third. Earlier won the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot and readily beat Daahyeh on the July Course before taking on the colts on heavy ground for the Prix Morny, beaten a neck by Earthlight with Arizona fourth.
🏇 So Wonderful A benchmark for collateral form after eight races, mostly placed, behind Daahyeh, Love (twice) and Alpine Star, including in the Albany and Moyglare.
🏇 Summer Romance Easy July Course win on firm but odds-on defeat when sixth at Ascot and beaten favourite again when nearly four lengths third to Dark Lady and Millisle at Salisbury in September.
🏇 Tropbeau Summer hat-trick completed in 7f Group-2 at the big Deauville meeting in August. Hampered twice in closing stages when, dropped back a furlong, third in Cheveley Park (Newmarket, good) behind Millisle and Raffle Prize.
