FRANKIE IGNORES ASCOT FOR SUPERNAP RIDE AT HAYDOCK: Daqman relies on Frankie Dettori to get the supernap back on track at Haydock this afternoon, as the jockey ace deserts his favourite track, Ascot, for just two rides in Lancashire. Two of Daqman’s bets on terrestrial TV (Shelir 0-0000) and Kaloor (30-003) have no recent winning form, but he finds one has been seriously out of luck and the other potentially trained over the wrong trip.

STAY ON SIDE WITH HANNON FILLY

⭕ 1.50 Ascot Back-to-back wins hiked Highland Dress into class 2 but, after eighth in the Wokingham here, he was beaten favourite, second on the July Course, then lost a shoe at Newbury.

Equitation, a class-4 scorer here in September, has also failed to make the transition to today’s higher level (his good second here on the last day came after being dropped a furlong).

By September, Chil Chil had already won at this level, albeit fillies only and without the form being franked afterwards. Her rating rose from 63 to 85 and she should go well after her run back (second) at Bath.

From the Newmarket 1-2-3 of two weeks back, the placed horses, Will To Win and Hamish Macbeth, are better off with the winner, Theotherside. But Richard Hannon’s Dandy Man filly took a real grip on the race and could improve again: 5.9 taken on BETDAQ.

HE’S THE STAR AGAINST FAVOURITE

⭕ 2.05 Haydock Ryan Moore has eight rides at Haydock today, three for Sir Michael Stoute, the man and master who guided him through his formative years in the saddle. Moore has ridden 547 Stoute winners at a remarkable strike rate of 22%.

Veracious drops to this fillies-and-mares Listed from three consecutive Group-1 races, starting last July with victory in the Falmouth, followed by second in the Sun Chariot and fourth in the British Champions Mile.

But the Frankel mare has had to have wind surgery and drops back to this Listed first run back with a record of 0-4 (twice beaten favourite) after long breaks.

Pricewise says he swerves her because she is ‘long odds on’. In fact she was very easy to back at 2.34 on BETDAQ this morning.

Guineas fourth Final Song has disappointed since but Festive Star looks progressive. Level weights now with Tomorrow’s Dream, the filly she beat when giving her 17lb in a handicap at Newbury three weeks back. I took 7.4 Festive Star with better than evens the place as cover.

SHELIR DESERVES CHANGE OF LUCK

⭕ 2.25 Ascot (Shergar Cup Celebration Handicap) I’m celebrating all right, glad there is no musical-jockeys Shergar Cup this year!

Shelir, who was Listed level for Dermot Weld, has twice been unlucky here at Ascot for David O’Meara this year, which has eased his rating 5lb.

He was on the wrong side in the Buckingham Palace at Royal Ascot, fifth drawn 6 when the first four in front of him came from 26, 22, 16, 27 then, denied clear run, eighth out of gate 3 in the International, when the result by stall was 19, 18, 20.

Kasbaan was also low drawn that day but has never won on turf and is 6lb higher than his last AW success.

Of two other five year olds, Jalaad is a winner-a-year horse (beat Wild Hope on AW), and he’s had his turn already in 2020; Game Player has never won after an absence. I took 5.9 Shelir.

DETTORI GETS GIANT HAYDOCK NAP

⭕ 2.40 Haydock (Rose Of Lancaster Stakes) Global Giant is another former Listed winner in Ireland, and he returned to that level for John Gosden and Frankie Dettori with a win at Newbury last month.

Global Giant impressed with a power run when beating Extra Elusive a length that day, with Goodwood Group race winner Pablo Escobarr behind him in third.

Gosden now bids to put this Haydock Group 3 on the CV of this Shamardal entire who, like his arch rival here, Zaaki (Ryan Moore again for Sir Michael Stoute), is a galloping type requiring plenty of driving.

There’s just a pound between them in the ratings at this stage. It’s Dettori v Moore in a likely battle royal, which Dettori should win at better than evens on BETDAQ early mouse.

Stoute and Moore have already managed to capture a Group 3 with Zaaki (Strensall Stakes at York last season) but he’s returning to 1m 2f for the first time in two years.

KALOOR CAN SCORE FOR CROWLEY

⭕ 3.00 Ascot There’s every chance that Kaloor has spent most of his life running over the wrong trip. He certainly showed up late over 1m 6f the last day, and his first 2m run here looks interesting, with Jim Crowley booked (BETDAQ 7.6).

His stable has just won 2-6 but the middle four were losers at long odds sandwiched between 2-2 winners which were solidly backed favourites.

Australis was runner-up in the Northumberland Plate to the horse he’d beaten in his prep race at Wolverhampton. He’s never won on turf.

As you would expect 2m hurdles winner Red Force One performed best at 1m 2f on the Flat. Sleeping Lion has failed three times stepping up to today’s trip.

That leaves Holy Kingdom (BETDAQ 6.0 taken) as my biggest worry. Stayed on strongly in the testing Newmarket straight over 1m 6f, promoted to first place over Volcanic Sky, who went on to score very easily – five lengths – over 2m at Kempton on the last day.

FOUNTAIN LOOKS SWEET ON FORM

⭕ 3.20 Newmarket (Sweet Solera Stakes) Stalls 1, 2, 3 have won five in a row off the nearside rail, two for Richard Hannon, who has Fly Miss Helen coming out of the one stall.

Helen won at Newbury, despite being hampered at the start, beating Sarsaparilla. That one got close to the winner, Ventura Diamond, when subsequently third at Goodwood but had been no match for Helen.

Mark Johnston, who has won this the last two years, saddles Dubai Fountain, seen running green when a length second to Fev Rover at Sandown, after that one had run Dandalla to a head in the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes.

Dandalla had slammed Setarhe six lengths in the Albany at Royal Ascot, so the form seems to be spouting Fountain. A tasty 4.8 in the BETDAQ orange.
