PREVIEW

Gillingham welcome out of form third placed Southend United tonight for a League Two match at the MEMS Prestfield Stadium.

The Shrimpers come into the clash on a poor run of results that has seen them lose three of their last four and drop from first to third over the past few weeks. A 2-0 defeat at home on Friday evening saw their promotion chances take another blow and they are now in real danger of dropping out of the automatic promotion places.

It’s been four games since the Shrimpers lost to Gillingham and Paul Sturrock will be hoping that factor can spur the side on to a much needed three points. Sturrock knows that defensive efforts must be improved after seeing his side surrender a two nil lead against Plymouth in the most recent away game.

Gillingham are hardly in inspiring form and they’ve lost each of their past three league games. In that run of defeats the Gills have shipped ten goals, although the past two losses were both 4-3. Tonight’s hosts have not been in action since the end of January, so Andy Hessenthaler’s side should have the fresher legs.

Five of Southend’s last six league matches have seen at least three goals, while Gillingham have conceded eight times in two games – so the recommendation is to back over 2.5 goals at around 1.8 on BETDAQ.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Back over 2.5 goals at around 1.8: 4 points

Sunday’s Return: +3.60 points
