SOUTHAMPTON V LIVERPOOL
8pm We have an intriguing clash for Monday Night Football this week as Southampton host Liverpool. After four draws in their last seven Premier League games Liverpool have been joined at the top of the table by Manchester United. Everyone has been dropping points this season, but Liverpool’s four draws have been particularly disappointing. They have come against Newcastle, West Brom, Fulham and Brighton – all clubs in the bottom six.
Southampton have been playing rock solid football this season, and this will be another tough test for Liverpool. It’s fair to say Liverpool have had a tough run this season with injuries, but they still look like the best team in the Premier League. Their main worry is probably Man City rather than Man United as if City win their two games in hand they won’t be far away. Ahead of the weekend’s fixtures six points for City’s two games in hand would put them one point behind Liverpool. I have to say though, what an interesting season! Liverpool were brilliant last season, but the title race was over by Christmas. It looks like we’ll go all the way this season with loads of drama along the way.
Looking at the xG figures, Liverpool can consider themselves unlucky not to beat Newcastle and West Brom – they had the better chances, but there wasn’t a huge amount in it. Liverpool have certainly dropped their level in recent weeks. Even in their 1-1 draw with Brighton; they lost 2.22 to 0.32 on xG. Those figures are unheard of for this Liverpool team.
Southampton have only been beaten recently by Man City and Man United, and they were unlucky to lose against City here recently. They have had some disappointing performances too however, they haven’t scored in two 0-0 draws against West ham and Fulham, meaning they haven’t scored for three games now.
I like two bets on BETDAQ Betting Exchange tonight. One of them is under 2.5 goals at 2.25 and the other is laying Liverpool at 1.71. I couldn’t put anyone off either bet as I feel they both offer value. I can see the game being a lot closer than odds of 1.71 suggest on Liverpool as Southampton have been very tough to beat this season. However, I’m going to opt for under 2.5 goals as my best bet. Liverpool haven’t been creating the same volume of chances recently as when they have been at their best and Southampton like to play a cagey game. I can see a very similar game to the City game here with only a goal deciding it in a very even game.
The Striker Says:
Two points win Under 2.5 goals at 2.25 on BETDAQ Betting Exchange
