Totenham’s hold on the third Champions League spot is coming under serious threat from their bitter rivals after back-to-back defeats. Of course they both were against top opposition, but Harry Redknapp’s side will still be bitterly disappointed with the results – especially to United. The gap between Spurs and Arsenal has been whittled down to four points and they’re sure to have a difficult time at Goodison Park.
Redknapp signaled his intent about winning the FA Cup by sending out a very strong starting XI against Stevenage and it didn’t exactly go to plan. Spurs got the job done, but lost Michael Dawson for the remainder of the season and that could hurt them against a rejuvenated Everton side.
Once again David Moyes has had to work on a shoe-string budget this season, but the Scot did superbly in the January transfer window to bring in some lively recruits. Unfortunately one of those, Steven Pienaar, is unable to play due to the loan regulations.
Royston Drenthe is showing the promise he showed for Holland U21’s a few years back and his goal against QPR was outstanding. Everton are committed and work hard for each other, but Drenthe adds something the side have lacked. The Toffees are in no danger of going down, so you can expect Moyes to go for it.
Spurs will be their usual attacking selves and it promises to be an open game with both sides really going at each other, so go for over 2.5 goals. Along with that tip, I reckon there will be a high corner count as that is often the case in these kind of games.
On Monday night Arsenal can continue their revival by beating Newcastle at the Emirates. I was in the studio covering the Benfica game on Tuesday, but couldn’t keep my eyes off the action at the Emirates. The Gunners gave it all they had against AC Milan, but it just wasn’t to be on the night and they’ll regret that night in Italy for a long time to come.
Even though they are out of Europe, the Gunners continued their rich vein of form and they are scoring for fun.
Robin van Persie continues to shine and his goals have helped the Gunners to 17 league goals in six matches. Newcastle are no mugs at the back, but keeping van Persie quiet is something that plenty of clubs have failed to do.
The way Arsenal are playing at the minute, I don’t see anything other than a home win on Monday.
