It’s a tale of two different starts to the season here with Everton unbeaten in their three games while Burnley are still waiting for their first win. Burnley might only have one draw from three games, but their xG figures show they are playing well. Burnley generally always struggle to create chances and score goals – they are more a grinding type of side where they do nothing flashy but just collect enough points to stay up each season – it’s early days but they seem to have improved going forward. Let’s see what they do in this fixture.

Everton have had two wins and three draws, but it’s fair to say they have yet to be really tested. Leeds fans will argue with that statement as they played Leeds away – but you could argue Everton should have won that game. The game finished 1.86 to 1.06 to Everton on xG. They played rock solid away to Brighton and at home to Southampton – creating chances in front of goal and conceding less than an xG of 1 too. I’d be very happy with their start to the season, especially considering they lost a big name manager during the summer.

There’s no getting away from the fact that this should be a very tight game. Neither side will open up early, and we could see quite a cagey start to the game. Everton have seen plenty of goals in their early games, and Burnley have been creating more than they have scored so perhaps if we see an early goal we could see a crazy score line; however under 2.5 goals looks too big at 1.89. If I was having a bet in the match odds market, I would side with Everton at 1.78 – I know Burnley have performed well, but Everton have played rock solid football and they should grind out a win here. I can see Burnley setting up to defend, and as I said above a very quiet start so under 2.5 goals looks a fantastic play here.
