MATCH OVERVIEW:

We have another double header to enjoy at the IPL on Saturday, but I’m going to focus on Royal Challengers Bangalore v Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second game on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. These two sides went into this tournament with massive question marks about their squad, but so far you’d have to say that both sides have been pretty successful. Results have been very good to the RCB and they have a great chance of finishing in the top two. While after being nailed to the bottom of the table for the whole season last year, it looks like Sunrisers Hyderabad could challenge for a Playoff spot this year.

I had massive doubts about the RCB bowling on paper going into this season, however their batting has been on fire and when Josh Hazlewood arrived it has transformed their bowling attack. They not look very dangerous and the pressure Hazlewood is putting on the other sides is really helping the other RCB bowling too – sides aren’t thinking about attacking. Hazlewood took another four wickets in RCB’s last win, and Faf du Plessis scored 96 runs too. Obviously the big question with RCB is when their stars don’t fire; what happens? The answer is usually they fall short, but so far that hasn’t happened and Dinesh Karthik has been superb coming in late in the batting order too.

A lot of IPL fans, including myself, would have been quick to write off Sunrisers Hyderabad again this season when they lost their opening two games. In fairness they were beaten badly in their opening game too, but they have bounced back superbly with four wins in a row. They have bowled well, and chased scores down easily. They have won by eight wickets and seven wickets in all four games – much like the RCB, the question is what happens if the top order fail?

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’re back at the Brabourne stadium and so far the scoring has been very high here. We did have one big blip in the last game here though as Punjab Kings collapsed all out for 115. The manner in which Delhi Capitals chased it down, scoring 119/1 in just 10.3 overs, would suggest that it’s still a very high scoring ground! I suppose it’s just something to worry about however, that teams aim too high in the first innings and then fall short. It’s a lot of pressure trying to score 200+ which seems to be needed here in fairness. We should have another high scoring game here though – this ground has been the best scoring ground this season.

RECOMMENDED BET:

The jury was out on the RCB bowling, but I believe Hazlewood coming in answers that question. RCB must have been counting down the days until he was free to come into the side! He has bowled superbly since he arrived at the IPL, and if he can take a few wickets from the top order then Sunrisers Hyderabad will be on the backfoot here massively. I would keep stakes reasonably low here because these high scoring grounds can sometimes give us a lotto like situation when we get heavy dew and it’s just easy for the batters, however I feel that RCB have the stronger squad here and they also have the better XI for the expected conditions. Their hitters are better, and their bowling is slightly better in my view.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

In the game we’ve seen here, I wouldn’t suggest there’s a major edge batting or bowling first. I would probably lean towards bowling first just because the side batting first are going to put themselves under a lot of pressure to score high and you can easily get a situation like Punjab the other night. That being said, I wouldn’t go into this game looking to get on the bowling side first up – it pays to stick to looking for trades on the batting side here. I would look for heavy dew, as that will make the bowlers life very tricky and also make chasing a lot easier. I feel the main play here will be supporting Josh Hazlewood when he bowls as he’s in superb form – just lower stakes because it’s a high scoring ground, and I would also be happy to support the RCB mid-to-low order – Maxwell and Karthik look ideal for this ground.
