THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Thursday’s Big Bash League match between Sydney Sixers v Hobart Hurricanes with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We’re ticking down towards Christmas, and we have more Big Bash action on BETDAQ Betting Exchange as Sydney Sixers take on Hobart Hurricanes on Thursday. The Sydney Sixers come into this game under pressure as they sit bottom of the table after losing their opening two games. After winning the tournament in 2019/20 and 2021/22, and then getting to the Final last season this start was unexpected to say the least. As we all know, it’s a long season in the Big Bash so we won’t be hitting the panic button yet. Fair to say they need a win here though.

Hobart Hurricanes lost their opening game, but they bounce back well on Monday to beat Perth Scorchers. They could have scored more than the 172/8 but it was still enough to win. I would definitely worry about the mid-to-low order of Hobart Hurricanes after watching the opening two games. They look like a side that need to top order to fire, and if they find themselves three down early they could be in trouble. The Sixers have lost their opening two games by wide margins so that is definitely worrying – perhaps we’ll see a different Sixers side this season compared to the reliable one we got used to seeing for the last three years.

They lost to Adelaide Strikers by 51 runs and then Perth Scorchers by 38 runs. Their bowling has looked average, but you can’t really blame the bowlers for the Scorchers loss as they finished 117 all out chasing 155/9. They really need one of Josh Phillippe, James Vince or Moises Henriques to start firing at the top of the order.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This is the first game of the tournament at the SCG. This was usually a pretty busy Big Bash ground, but in recent years they have hosted less games here because of Covid19 and the International commitments. Last season we only saw one game here – the Sixers won posting 188/6. In the 2019/20 season, we saw more cricket here because of the bio-bubbles. We did get a lot of bad weather, but the highest score was 209/4 and the lowest was 131 all out. Usually the SCG is good for run scoring, and I’d want to bat first to make best use of conditions.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Although the Sixers have had a woeful start to the tournament, you don’t become a bad side overnight. Their batters have definitely struggled, but with home advantage here and good batting conditions, this just might be the platform to kick start their tournament. Hobart Hurricanes aren’t a fantastic side – they look there for the taking when they come up against the top sides, and if the Sixers can take early wickets then that will go a long way to winning the game. I’m definitely keep stakes small on this game, but Sixers look nice value at 2.1.

The Edge Says:
One point win Sydney Sixers to beat Hobart Hurricanes at 2.1 with Betdaq Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

We didn’t see too much Big Bash cricket here last season, so I wouldn’t go into the game fully expecting plenty of runs, but the general Big Bash history at this ground has been to back runs. We usually see good scoring conditions and some pretty high scores. In general, you want to bat first so I would favour the team batting first, and I’ll look to open a trade on them once we see the opening two overs or so. The mid-to-low order of Hobart Hurricanes looks worth taking on too, but reduce stakes if we have a pretty flat wicket.
