UPDATE: Daqman 4, Pricewise 3

YESTERDAY: Willie Mullins eight-timer. Records fell across the cards in Ireland, with a 113,999-1 eight-timer for Willie Mullins at Cork and Fairyhouse.

TODAY: The Irish Grand National. It’s the week of the two big Nationals, starting at Fairyhouse today, then it’s countdown Liverpool.

IRISH NATIONAL: GO TO TOWN

⭕ 5.00 Fairyhouse (Irish Grand National) STATS: 9 out of 10 winners carried below 11st; some 16 of the last 19 had 10st 8lb or less. The last 7 out of 9 were aged 7 to 9.

Trainer Dermot McLoughlin had hoped to go for a hat-trick in the race today with last year’s winner, Lord Lariat, but has to wait for the Scottish Grand National later in the month.

1 STUMPTOWN Trainer Gavin Cromwell said recently this one is still learning. Well, a rise of two stone in the last three months is some learning curve. He was giving 4lb when beaten a neck in the Kim Muir at Cheltenham, with Aintree hopeful Mr Incredible more than five lengths third.

2 ROYAL PAGAILLE Gold Cup fifth and King George second, won the Peter Marsh at Haydock twice on very soft ground. Runs here instead of at Aintree but has a lot of weight.

3 CHEMICAL ENERGY Handicap chase debut today off a good mark for this but a worry about the ground.

Hampered at the 16th, got back in the race and was left in the lead two out in the NH Chase at Cheltenham (3m 6f), beaten less than three lengths by one rated 8lb superior. Tenzing was a well-beaten fourth.

4 ESPANITO BELLO Leinster National winning grey on soft, finished in rear in this Fairyhouse version in 2021 when the ground was too lively. He beat Coko Beach 18 lengths, with Longhouse Poet third when they were novices.

5 THEDEVILSCOACHMAN has been a fragile favourite (eased overnight) because last-time scorers rarely win this, and his chasing experience is with beginners and novices only. But he’s won seven out of 10, still standing, on soft and heavy ground.

ANGELS DAWN was the winner over Stumpton at Cheltenham, but has a 9lb penalty in consequence.

BUSSELTON Kerry National winner, six lengths off Corach Rambler when fifth in the Newbury Gold Cup (3m 2f, good) in November, and returned to run a good trial for this in the Webster Cup the last day. Blinkers back on but heavy ground not ideal.

PANDA BOY Fell last time but third to Real Steel in the big Christmas 3m chase at Leopardstown. Second and fourth, Diol Ker and Ain’t That A Shame, are due to run in the Aintree Grand National on Saturday. Panda Boy needs ‘decent ground.’

THE GOFFER Leopardstown Chase winner in February, followed up with fourth to Liverpool National favourite, Corach Rambler, in the Ultima (3m 1f) at Cheltenham; led three out, weakened. Not want it too soft.

MUST BE OBEYED Loves soft ground and tough sort for a staying chase career.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 9.4 Stumptown, 14.5 Chemical Energy, 15 Royal Pagaille, 25 Espanito Bello

34.0 ‘SIZZLER’ STABLE 10-12

⭕ 4.05 Kempton (Rosebery Handicap) Sometimes, though rarely, a race has one unopposable, unmissable stat!

No, they don’t win all the time but they do win often enough for you to be backing a ‘gift horse’ from within the stats every year.

Results by stall of the Rosebery in the decade are 3,1,8,7,1,9,1,1,5,1 giving you a 100% strike-rate with the single-figure draw and 50% with the one stall alone.

This is where the know-alls butt in and say it’s either concidence or, if not, then the jockeys will start to counteract the seeming effect of the draw.

The anoraks huddle beneath their shades for days, then give you that MP’s-style distraction of sheer arrogance which translates as: ‘I am important and I only I know but you are not yet worthy of the information’.

This is the phrase they use, as often as not because they don’t know the answer themselves: ‘What I CAN tell you is..’

If only Ambrose Bierce were alive today.. Or his Irish equivalent, Flann O’Brien (Brian O’Nolan), a writer who had two names because you couldn’t describe the worth of the man in one!

Hoofnote: Oh, yes the Rosebery? Just look at the one stall: Solo Sizzler, the City And Suburban winner last year.

And the stable? Gary Moore is currently 10 out of 12 with the sequence 111121111110, still standing. Imagine the skill, placing and planning that went into that.

FLIC! NICHOLLS OWES ME

⭕ 4.08 Plumpton (Sussex Champion Chase) I named Paul Nicholls’ Truckers Lodge among the BETDAQ value horses for the West Wales National yesterday at 8.0 (WON 6-1).

But, contrary to my usual way of big-race betting, I restricted myself to an each-way punt on one I was told was in the marathons Pipeline, but he didn’t run his race.

Before my membership of the Nicholls appreciation society becomes due, I hope that – before I Ditcheat altogether – Paul can get me out of the rabbit-hole with Flic Ou Voyou, who is two from three since he’s had his ground. Offered 7.0 this morning.

Note to self: Back to the staple after that, ‘It’s better to win the race with betting strategy rather than hope to name the winner in one go.’ The BETDAQ value market makes it almost mandatory, with

THE NAP (3.10 Chepstow) Smart novice hurdler, smart novice chaser – Grade 2 wins in both – then the wheels came off. But the grey Angels Breath is strongly fancied to get back on track today. BETDAQ 4.1.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
