POOR START FOR FAVOURITES

LAYS LOGIC: There have been NO outright SP favourites among winners of ANY one of the first three races in recent years on the Newmarket card today: 0-19.

Daqman Lays Logic will warn you about bad races for favourites but, generally, will recommend a lay only when there is more than one reason for opposing the front of the market as it stands when selections are published.

⭕ 1.50 Newmarket Most Flat-turf races are a watching brief until we know more about the horses’ form and the stable well-being. But you might catch an early offer that will be backed and so give you ‘overs.’

Charlie Appleby usually starts well and has had five winners and five seconds from his last 13 starters. The hooded AW horse Majestic Pride is clearly playing to catch out the newcomers for fitness.

Second-string City Of Kings raced – and won one – in a hood last year but that has been dispensed with to start his new season. They could easily finish the other way round.

Hi Royal was a big beast already as a two-year-old and the Kodiac colt has filled out over the winter. Ryan Moore is asked to assess this one’s 2,000 Guineas chances from a tricky stall 8.

Think Climate showed up well in the Road To the Kentucky Derby race at Chelmsford and could well be pacy from the one stall; he has to be if he is to get into the race.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 5.9 Hi Royal

BENOIT CLAIM LOOKS HANDY

⭕ 2.25 Newmarket Charlie Appleby’s joint-favourite won this in 2019 but his Eastern Word (3-1 clear fav) was only fourth in 2021.

New Kingdom likes to dictate, which he did at Doncaster in October and Meydan the last day.

So, though the field is not as big as it was when Vafortino won the Victoria Cup last season – second run back – he should get a good lead.

Rebel Territory scored off this mark on his return last year but Amanda Perrett’s yard has shown very little this year. So, too, Ian Williams (Spirit Of Light), while Hodler’s form is in lower grades and sprinter Juan Les Pins may struggle over 7f on soft.

Come-from-behind Tacarib Bay will hope to tackle New Kingdom late on but Vafortino gets the vote under Benoit De La Sayette. His claim could make the difference.

BETDAQ value 7.8 Vafortino

THE HIDDEN-HORSE MOMENT..

⭕ 3.00 Newmarket Frankie’s back! And Team Gosden is in good form. But can Unforgotten, a class-3 AW winner bag this class-2 turf handicap?

The grey filly Ashky is a CD winner at this level but the one stall will require all William Buick’s skill to manoeuvre.

Harswell Duke has climbed the grades but his Doncaster strike was in heavy ground and the heath reports a drying surface and forecast sunshine.

There is a ‘hidden horse’ which will give us small-change speculation as we watch the race.
Heat of The Moment is capable of winning first time and has since spent her very limited career in Pattern races. Could be ‘anything’.

Her trainer had a hidden one in this last year, Intellogent, who finished second and runs in today’s Earl Of Sefton.

BETDAQ value 6.6 Unforgotten, 13 Ashky, 66 Heat Of The Moment

THE FLEET IS IN FOR APPLEBY

⭕ 3.35 Newmarket (Earl of Sefton Stakes) Intellogent was fourth in the French Derby and won the Jean Prat.

That was way back in 2018, but last year’s half-length defeat in the Royal Hunt Cup, then threeparts of a length third in the John Smith’s, were so, so close to a ‘hidden horse’ coup; 40-1 in the Royal Ascot race.

Do we dare assume that Jane Chapple-Hyam has both Heat Of The Moment and Intellogent ready on the same day?

Jane won this race back to back in 2013-14 with heavily-backed Mull Of Killough, who also won fresh. So I’m all for an in-your-dreams double dabble 66.0 Heat of The Moment and 37.0 Intellogent.

Ottoman Fleet was third at Meydan in February to his Santiago Derby and Aqueduct Derby winning stablemate, Nations Pride, and earlier to another Godolphin star player, six-wins from-eight Valiant Prince.

He should do better than handicappers Blue Trail and Poker Face, though both are expected to take big steps forward.

Charlie Appleby won the race in 2015 and again last year with Master Of The Seas. Jane Chapple-Hyam was last.

BETDAQ value 2.7 Ottoman Fleet, 37 Intellogent

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
