This is the first of two massive Finals for Inter Milan who meet Manchester City in the Champions League Final in June. They did suffer a setback in Serie A at the weekend however; they lost 3-1 away to Napoli and they could have been under pressure again in the top four race however then the new broke that Juventus have been given a ten point deduction after an investigation into their transfer dealings.
There’s been a lot of drama in the Serie A top four race this season! Earlier on Juventus were given a 15 point deduction, then that was overturned, and then now they’ve been handed a ten point deduction. Nevertheless, Inter Milan still have a five point advantage over Atalanta who now sit in fifth. One side that will be kicking themselves is Roma, they have lost so many points recently but they do have a Europa League Final to look forward to.
Fiorentina will have their whole focus on this Final. They currently sit in mid-table in Serie A, and you have to say that they have had an easy run into the Final. They’ve beaten sides like Sampdoria, Torino and Cremonese – two sides that sit in the relegation zone and then Torino who are actually on the same amount of points as them in Serie A. Fiorentina are a decent side on their day however, and they do create more chances than they concede. Their average xG created is 1.5 while their average conceded is 1.2. Compare this to Inter Milan’s figures which are an average xG created of 1.8 and they are only conceding an average of 0.9 which is very impressive.
I know the loss against Napoli was a setback at the weekend, but Napoli are Serie A Champions and they have been ultra impressive this season. Other than that, Inter Milan have been playing some excellent football recently. They come into this game as the favourites, but they aren’t quite odds on. Inter Milan are 2.04, Fiorentina 4.0 and the draw is 3.5 at the time of writing. Both sides are solid at the back, so we could easily have a classic cagey big Italian game here. Under 2.5 goals is trading 1.87 and I’m sure that will be a popular bet.
The sides have already met twice this season in Serie A. Inter Milan won a thriller 4-3 when Fiorentina had home advantage, while Fiorentina were able to grind out a 1-0 win when Inter Milan had home advantage! Talk about two different games, however Fiorentina were very lucky to win that game as Inter Milan finished the game with an xG of 2.71. Both times they’ve met Fiorentina they’ve finished with an xG of over 2.0 and although I couldn’t put anyone off Under 2.5 goals at 1.87, I like the Inter Milan win here at 2.04. They are playing the better football this season and they have been on top in both the meetings between the sides. They can get the job done here.
