MONDAY PREMIER LEAGUE: The Striker previews Monday’s game between CRYSTAL PALACE v ARSENAL with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
CRYSTAL PALACE V ARSENAL
8pm Matchday Two finishes with Monday Night Football on BETDAQ Betting Exchange as Crystal Palace host Arsenal. This should be an interesting game – both sides started their season with a win on the opening weekend, but they faced sides likely to be in the relegation battle. In Crystal Palace’s case, they face Sheffield United who are odds on to go back down to the Championship. They both played well – Palace finished their 1-0 win with an xG of 2.1 while Arsenal created 1.72 against Nottingham Forest and controlled the game.
This fixture should provide us with a better idea of where these two sides stand. Arsenal come into this season as clear second favourites for the title – that’s probably a reflection on the other sides rather than how strong Arsenal are. However, you wonder what has to happen for Arsenal to lift the title over Manchester City. Are they going to get a better chance than last season? I know this young squad would have learned a lot from being in the title race, but let’s face it – they crumbled when the pressure came on.
Palace were “saved” by Roy Hodgson last season as they edged towards a relegation battled under Patrick Vieira. They were never in danger but they were just played poor football. Hodgson at 76 years old has agreed to stay on, and it will be interesting to see what Palace can do this season. They certainly play good football under him. An area to improve on for Palace is definitely their home form – they were in the bottom seven on home form last season. Speaking of home and away form; Arsenal were superb away from home last season.
Usually we have spoken about Arsenal sides failing to deal with pressure and tough moments away from home over the last few years. That has definitely been one thing that Arteta has changed. Arsenal actually managed two more points than Manchester City did away from home last season. When you see Arsenal trading at prices like 1.63 here away from home, you usually lean away from that but that hasn’t been the case under Arteta. Crystal Palace are trading 6.2 while the draw is 4.3.
Arsenal won this fixture 2-0 last season, but longer-term they don’t have a fantastic record in the Premier League against Palace. They have a win rate of only 55% which isn’t too high for a top club like Arsenal. We tend to see goals between the sides too – in the last 20 matches 95% have had Over 1.5 goals and 65% have had Over 2.5 goals. Over 2.5 goals looks nice value at 1.95 to be honest as I can’t see either side sitting back. Four of the last five meetings have had Over 2.5 goals collect too – I’m pretty happy to stay out of the match odds market here, so I’m not going to look past Over 2.5 goals at the odds.
The Striker Says:
Three points win Over 2.5 goals at 1.95 with BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.
