SUNDAY PREMIER LEAGUE: The Striker previews Sunday’s only game in the Premier League – it’s NOTTINGHAM FOREST v BRENTFORD including a recommended BETDAQ bet.
NOTTINGHAM FOREST V BRENTFORD
2pm It’s an unusual Super Sunday in the Premier League this week with only one fixture to enjoy on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. It’s just the way the fixture list worked out this week with a lot of European commitments midweek next week, and also we had the Third Round of the Carabao Cup this week as well. It’s been a very busy couple of weeks, and I’m sure we’ll all be complaining again when the next International Break comes around! That International Break actually comes up quite quickly – we only have next weekend in the Premier League and then we’re back to Euro Qualifying.
We might only have one game to enjoy on Sunday, but it is the most open market of the weekend as Nottingham Forest host Brentford. We have an exceptionally open betting heat. Brentford are the favourites as they trade 2.72 with Nottingham Forest 2.92 and the draw is 3.35. Brentford have a good record against Nottingham Forest, winning six of the eight meetings – of course, most of those meetings took place in the Championship. We had two entertaining meetings between the sides last season in the Premier League with Brentford winning 2-1 when they had home advantage and the fixture here finished 2-2. Both teams have scored in the last four meetings, and that’s trading 1.89 here.
Brentford were beaten midweek in the Carabao Cup by Arsenal which meant they have put three losses together in a row now. They can be forgiven the Newcastle loss away from home, but you have to say losing to Everton with home advantage was pretty poor. They played poorly too as they only finished the game with an xG of 1.04. Their average xG created this season is 1.4 so they were quite under par. They are conceding plenty of chances as well – they are actually conceding marginally more chances with an average xG conceded of 1.46.
Nottingham Forest actually have one more point than Brentford, but their performance level has been very poor. Prior to this weekend they were one of only three sides with an average xG created of under 1.0, the others being Fulham and Sheffield United, and they are also conceding a lot of chances at the back. Their average xG conceded is 1.49 – not as bad as the sides around them in the table but clearly an issue when you’re struggling in front of goal. The reality is we have two sides who aren’t firing here, and it’s easy to see why we have such an open market.
Nottingham Forest will quickly say that they have had a very difficult fixture list at the start of the season, and they are correct. They have already had to play Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City – they did manage to pick up a win away to Chelsea though! They would have been disappointed to draw 1-1 with Burnley in their last home game, but that was a very close game and the draw was the right result. I feel we’ll see another very close game here; Brentford have only managed to win one of their six games and I would have the sides a little closer together in the betting. We all know Forest are more comfortable at home too, and the draw looks the value here at 3.35 in what should be a very even game.
The Striker Says:
