13.0 STRIKE DEFEATS DAQMAN LAY: After winners at 67-10, 9-2 and 7-2 in the last few days, Daqman yesterday stepped up the value with a 13-0 BETDAQ strike, opposing a short-priced favourite which drifted as his winner was gambled in to 11-2.

WON 11-2 LILKIAN (Thursday) 13.0 taken on BETDAQ
WON (Lays Logic) STONE OF DESTINY 3rd 3-1 and shorter
WON 6-5 GOOD RISK AT ALL (Thursday)
WON 7-2 AL AGAILA (Wednesday)
WON 13-8 POINT SUR (Wednesday)
WON 9-2 VESPASIAN (Tuesday)
WON 15-8 KORKER (Monday nap)
WON 2-1 RUBAUD (Sunday nap)
WON 67-10 LOS ANGELES (Sunday)

DONCASTER TRIES TO SAVE SATURDAY: Daqman hopes his winning sequence won’t be interrupted today, after wasting a lot of midnight oil with the abandonment of Newbury (today and tomorrow) and Doncaster, where they still hope to save tomorrow’s Futurity card.

THE SPECTACLE CALLED RACING

The great arena reopens. And Rachael Blackmore is immediately back on the historic turf at Cheltenham, with my mind’s-eye reprising her finishes in the 2022 Champion Hurdle (Honeysuckle) and Gold Cup (A Plus Tard) double.

But I recommend you play again on video the whole of her so-skilful ride in the 2021 Grand National, winning for the same trainer, Henry de Bromhead, on Minella Times.

Superb memories, but we are losing more of the spectacle of the great race next year and may soon lose also the pleasure of a bet alongside the many thousands who enjoy the game.

Yet more alterations to the race itself have been waived through and our ability to have a punt is under the threat of intervention on our personal finances.

We still must believe there are some MPs trying to rise above the schoolboy spats, sex games and cynicism in the House Of Commons.

Be cynical yourself: write to them now and tell them how many votes they could earn from those many thousands of punters by backing a winner called Racing.

AFADIL HAS BIG-RACE TARGET

⭕ 1.35 Cheltenham (2m conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle) The word from Paul Nicholls is that Afadil, winner three times last season, has improved over the holidays.

First run today after his wind op, he preps at Cheltenham ahead of the Greatwood Hurdle there in a month’s time.

He has formidable rivals here, including the Swinton Hurdle one-two Black Poppy, who won at Cheltenham earlier, and Teddy Blue, who had taken the Sussex Champion Hurdle crown at Plumpton.

Gordon Elliott keeps their weights down with three-times hurdles scorer Royal Eagle, top-rated off 137.

But he may have one eye on Shetland Tony, who had no sooner left his yard earlier this month than he stormed home at Stratford by 18 lengths.

⭕ 2.45 Cheltenham (2m3f novices’ hurdle) I shall have a pound on Rachael Blackmore’s mount, Tag Man, who scored for her and Henry de Bromhead’s team at Listowel by 14 lengths over today’s trip in a field of 18.

BRAVE NAP ON POINT WINNER

⭕ 3.20 Cheltenham (2m4f novices’ handicap chase) Paul Nicholls has had only two weeks to get to know Ginny’s Destiny since the seven-year-old moved to the yard.

He has seen that the son of Yeats can jump but where he is in the scheme of things he can currently only measure by his 135 rating.

Point winner Moon Hunter is being supported but two poor efforts over hurdles coincided with soft ground.

Atlanta Brave, a dual hurdles winner on soft, won a Point in Ireland, always a good sign, and gets weight from all bar one in this.

His trainer, Kerry Lee, who runs Black Poppy over hurdles in the opener, is currently 1-1, and 3-5 over fences for the season. She has a superb chasing record of 20% in the last five seasons.

WATCH OUT FOR BOUGHEY BETS

⭕ 1.55 Lingfield (1m fillies novice) Andrew Balding has a near-50% record with youngsters switched from turf to AW and Secret Satire has been punted this morning: opened 33-1 with bookies; 16.0 on BETDAQ as I write.

Climate Action ran up to an odds-on winner at Ascot who went for a Group 1 after that. Trainer of the third horse home was Andrew Balding.

⭕ 6.45 Wolverhampton (7f handicap) Wolver has the only high-grade contest. The class-2 level handicap looks wide open, though George Boughey’s All The King’s Men (first-time cheekpieces) and Hollie Doyle’s mount for Clive Cox, Aratus (after a wind op) are the market closers.

Significant that, of George Boughey’s last 31 runners, those at 3-1 or shorter SP finished 13111, plus another winner at 9-2. The rest finished ‘nowhere’, as they say.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
